Louis-Philippe Sauvé is a Canadian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (Canada), Member of Parliament (MP) for LaSalle—Émard—Verdun since 2024. He gained the seat for the Bloc Québécois from the Liberal Party of Canada, Liberals at 2024 LaSalle—Émard—Verdun federal by-election, a by-election on September 16, 2024, with 28% of the vote. Prior to becoming a candidate, Sauvé had been a staff member in the Bloc Québécois' parliamentary branch and research department. He had previously worked as the communications and administration coordinator for the Institute for Research in Contemporary Economics. Sauvé holds a master's degree in history from the Université du Québec à Montréal and a bachelor's degree in social sciences with a concentration in history from the Université du Québec en Outaouais. LaSalle—Émard—Verdun
LaSalle—Émard—Verdun is a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in Montreal, Quebec. It was created by the Canadian federal electoral redistribution, 2012, 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and was legally defined in the 2013 representation order. It came into effect upon the call of the 42nd Canadian federal election, scheduled for 19 October 2015. It was created out of parts of Jeanne-Le Ber (51%) and LaSalle—Émard (49%) plus a small section of territory between the Lachine Canal and the Le Sud-Ouest borough boundary taken from Westmount—Ville-Marie and an adjacent uninhabited section from Notre-Dame-de-Grâce—Lachine. David T. Lametti (born August 10, 1962) is a Canadian politician who has been the minister of justice and attorney general of Canada since 2019. A member of the Liberal Party, Lametti sits as a member of Parliament (MP) and has represented LaSalle—Émard—Verdun in the House of Commons since 2015. A by-election was held in the federal riding of LaSalle—Émard—Verdun in Quebec, Canada, on September 16, 2024, following the resignation of incumbent Liberal MP David Lametti. While the riding was considered a "stronghold" for the Liberals, the by-election was expected by some to be a close race between the Liberals and the NDP, who ran "well known" Montreal city councillor Craig Sauvé.
