Loughborough Athletic and Football Club were an England, English Association football, football club based in Loughborough, Leicestershire, that played in the Football League at the end of the 19th century. History The club started life as Loughborough Football Club in 1886 from a merger of Victoria and Athletic, the two senior sides in the town, using the latter's ground then called Bromhead or Hubbard Cricket Ground. November 1887 saw merger with the local athletics club to form Loughborough Athletic and Football Club. The club was also known as Loughborough Town. In 1891 the club joined the Midland League (1889), Midland League. Athletic Ground (Loughborough)
The Athletic Ground was a association football, football ground in Loughborough in England. It was the home ground of Loughborough F.C. between 1886 and 1900. History The Athletic Ground was initially used for cricket until Loughborough F.C. started using it for football after their establishment in 1886. The ground was located behind the Greyhound Hotel, with the dressing rooms located at the back of the hotel. Midland Alliance (1890)
The Midland Alliance was an association football league for teams in the Midlands of England, which ran for three seasons in the 1890s. History The League was set up at a meeting at the Maypole Hotel in Nottingham in June 1890. The aim was to form a competition akin to the Midland League for clubs overlooked for that particular division; 9 clubs initially pledged to join, with an invitation sent to Football League club Notts County for its reserve side (the Rovers) to take part. County duly accepted and 10 teams formed the first league, officially called the Midland Football Alliance, but almost always referred to as the Midland Alliance. 1890–91 season Rotherham Swifts, after winning only one of its first five matches, withdrew from the league in December 1890. Central Midlands League
The Central Midlands Alliance is an English football league covering the northeast-central part of England. Formed in 1971 as the South Derbyshire League, changing name initially to the Derbyshire League before changing to the Central Midlands League in 1983, it covers parts of Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire and Staffordshire, although Sheffield-based teams play in the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior Football League. The 1898–99 season was the 11th season of The Football League. Two teams were able to win the First Division title going into the final day of the season: Aston Villa and Liverpool; second-placed Liverpool travelled to Villa Park for the final match, needing a win to overtake Villa and win the title, but Villa won 5–0 to win their fourth First Division title. Defending champions Sheffield United had the first poor title defence in English top flight history, finishing 16th out of 18, barely avoiding the two relegation places.
