Lou Whitaker
Louis Rodman Whitaker Jr. (born May 12, 1957), nicknamed "Sweet Lou", is an American former professional baseball second baseman. Whitaker spent his entire career with the Detroit Tigers. From 1977 to 1995, he appeared in 2,390 games for the Tigers, third most in franchise history behind Ty Cobb and Al Kaline. He helped the Tigers win the 1984 World Series, was selected as an American League All-Star five consecutive years (1983–1987) and won four Silver Slugger Awards (1983–1985, 1987) and three Gold Glove Awards (1983–1985). The Tigers retired his No. 1 jersey in August 2022. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Virginia, Whitaker was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 1975. Lou Whittaker
Louis Winslow Whittaker (February 10, 1929 – March 24, 2024) was an American mountaineer, mountain guide, and businessman. He and his twin brother, Jim Whittaker, also a renowned mountaineer and guide, were born and raised in Seattle. Biography Lou Whittaker was born in Seattle, Washington, on February 10, 1929. He and his twin brother Jim began climbing mountains at age 12. The Whittakers completed their first summit of Mount Rainier at age 16 and had climbed all of the major peaks in Washington by age 18. Besides his worldwide mountain climbing experience, Whittaker became the most experienced glacier-travel guide by climbing to the summit of Mount Rainier over 250 times. Ty Cobb
Tyrus Raymond Cobb (December 18, 1886 – July 17, 1961), nicknamed "the Georgia Peach", was an American professional baseball center fielder. A native of rural Narrows, Georgia, Cobb played 24 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). He spent 22 years with the Detroit Tigers and served as the team's player-manager (baseball), player-manager for the last six, and he finished his career with the History of the Philadelphia Athletics, Philadelphia Athletics. In baseball and softball, a double play (denoted as DP in baseball statistics) is the act of making two outs during the same continuous play. Double plays can occur any time there is at least one baserunner and fewer than two outs. Alan Trammell
Alan Stuart Trammell ( ; born February 21, 1958) is an American former professional baseball shortstop, manager, and coach. He is a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. He played for the Detroit Tigers for the entirety of his 20-year playing career in Major League Baseball (MLB). Trammell has served as a special assistant to the General Manager of the Detroit Tigers since the 2014 season. Trammell won the 1984 World Series championship over his hometown San Diego Padres, earning Series MVP honors. His team also won an American League East division championship in 1987. Although his arm was not overpowering, he had a quick release and made accurate throws, ultimately winning four Gold Glove awards.
