Lotus 94T
The Lotus 94T was a Formula One racing car used by Team Lotus in the second part of the 1983 Formula One season. Design and development The car was designed and built in only five weeks by the incumbent designer Gérard Ducarouge, who was brought into the team by boss Peter Warr in an attempt to stave off the uncompetitiveness of the previous Lotus cars. The car was powered by the Renault F1, Renault Gordini ''Renault EF-Type engine, EF1'' V6 engine, V6-Turbocharger, turbo engine, and ran on Pirelli tyres. It featured a lower, slimmer monocoque with improved weight distribution over its predecessor. Racing history The 94T made its debut at the 1983 British Grand Prix and proved to be competitive in the hands of Nigel Mansell, who came home fourth in the race, and Elio de Angelis, and provided an upswing in form for the Lotus team which would carry them into the 1984 season with a developed version of the car. 1983 Dutch Grand Prix
The 1983 Dutch Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at Circuit Zandvoort, Zandvoort on 28 August 1983. It was the twelfth race of the 1983 Formula One World Championship. The 72-lap race was won by René Arnoux, driving a Ferrari 126C, Ferrari, with team-mate Patrick Tambay second and John Watson (racing driver), John Watson third in a McLaren MP4/1, McLaren-Ford Motor Company, Ford. Alain Prost and Nelson Piquet collided midway through the race while challenging for the lead, allowing Arnoux to move into second in the Drivers' Championship, eight points behind Prost. The 1983 European Grand Prix (formally the John Player Grand Prix of Europe) was a Formula One motor race held at Brands Hatch on 25 September 1983. It was the fourteenth race of the 1983 Formula One World Championship. The 76-lap race was won by Nelson Piquet, driving a Brabham-BMW. Piquet's Drivers' Championship rival Alain Prost was second in a factory Renault, while Nigel Mansell was third in a Lotus-Renault. With the win, Piquet moved within two points of Prost at the top of the championship with one race remaining. Peter Warr
Peter Eric Warr (18 June 1938 – 4 October 2010) was a British motorsport executive and racing driver. From 1970 to 1976 and from 1981 to 1989, Warr served as team principal and sporting director for Lotus in Formula One, winning three World Constructors' Championship titles between and ; he also served in executive roles at Wolf and Fittipaldi. As a driver, Warr won the inaugural Japanese Grand Prix in 1963 with Lotus. Early life and career Peter Eric Warr was born on 18 June 1938 in Kermanshah, Imperial State of Iran. Warr served a period of National Service as an officer in the Guards Division of the British Army, after training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. The 1983 FIA Formula One World Championship was the 37th season of FIA Formula One motor racing. It featured the 1983 Formula One World Championship for Drivers and the 1983 Formula One World Championship for Manufacturers, which were contested concurrently over a fifteen-race series that commenced on 13 March and ended on 15 October. Nelson Piquet, driving for Brabham, won the Drivers' Championship, for the second time. Renault driver Alain Prost led the championship from the Belgian Grand Prix in May until the final race in South Africa, where he retired and enabled the Brazilian to snatch the title. It was the first title by a driver using a turbocharged engine and the last title by a Brabham driver. The 1983 British Grand Prix (formally the XXXVI Marlboro British Grand Prix) was a Formula One motor race held at Silverstone on 16 July 1983. It was the ninth race of the 1983 Formula One World Championship. The 67-lap race was won by Alain Prost, driving a factory Renault, after he started from third position.
