''Last Stand in the Philippines'' () is a 1945 Spanish biographical film, biographical war film directed by Antonio Román. It is based on a radio script by Enrique Llovet, ''Los Héroes de Baler,'' and novel, ''El Fuerte de Baler,'' by Enrique Alfonso Barcones and Rafael Sánchez Campoy. The movie theme song "", composed by Llovet (lyrics) and Jorge Halpern (music), became very popular. It was Lip sync, lip synced by actress Nani Fernández and sung by Maria Teresa Valcárcel. Background "The Last Ones of the Philippines" is the name given to the Spanish soldiers who fought in the Siege of Baler against Philippine Revolutionary Army, Filipino revolutionaries and against the United States Army, US Army during the Spanish–American War (in Spain also called "The Disaster of 98"). Antonio Román
Antonio Román (9 November 1911 – 16 June 1989) was a prolific Spain, Spanish film director, screenwriter, film producer. Antonio Román was born Ourense, Spain on 9 November 1911. Román began directing films in the later 1930s starting with documentaries. His first dramatic feature film was ''Esquadrilla''. His other work includes an adaptation of ''Lola Montes (1944 film), Lola Montes'' and ''La Fierecilla domada'', a retelling of ''The Taming of the Shrew''. Many of these films star his wife, actress Yvonne Bastien. Román has won several international awards such as Golden Olive Tree from the Cine de Humor de Bordighera in Italy for ''Bombas para la paz'' and an award for ''Pacto de silencio'' from the Cork Festival in Ireland. Román died on 16 June 1989. Prior to his death, he worked with Radio Exterior.
