Long County is a County (United States), county located in the U.S. state of Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia. The county seat is Ludowici, Georgia, Ludowici. Long County is part of the Hinesville-Fort Stewart metropolitan area, Hinesville-Fort Stewart Metropolitan Statistical Area. The constitutional amendment to create the county was proposed August 14, 1920, and ratified November 2, 1920. The county is named after Crawford Long (1815–1878), an American surgeon and pharmacist who was the first to use diethyl ether as an anaesthetic. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, the population was 16,168. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which is land and (0.9%) is water. U.S. Route 301 (US 301) is a spur of U.S. Route 1 running through the South Atlantic states. It runs from Biddles Corner, Delaware, at Delaware Route 1 to Sarasota, Florida, at U.S. Route 41. Wayne County is a county located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 30,144. The county seat is Jesup. McIntosh County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,975, a drop of 23.4 percent since the 2010 census. The county seat is Darien. State Route 196 (SR 196) is a state highway in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. Its routing is located within portions of Tattnall, Long, and Liberty counties. It connects the Glennville and Hinesville areas. Route description SR 196 begins at an intersection with US 23/ US 301/ SR 23/ SR 57 southwest of Glennville. The highway heads southeast and enters Long County. SR 196 heads eastward, traveling through rural areas of the county, before gradually heading southeast once again. Just after entering Liberty County, it turns first to the southeast and then to the northeast until it enters Hinesville. State Route 144 (SR 144) is an state highway that travels in a west-to-east direction through portions of Appling, Tattnall, Long, Liberty, Bryan counties in the east-central of the U.S. state of Georgia. It connects Baxley with southeastern Bryan County. Route description SR 144 begins at an intersection with US 341/SR 27 just east of Baxley, within Appling County.
