Lone Star Showdown
The Lone Star Showdown is the traditional rivalry for all varsity men's and women's athletics competitions between the University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University. The name comes from ''Lone Star State'', which is the nickname of the state of Texas. The "Lone Star Showdown" moniker was trademarked in 1996. The schools are rivals in most major sports, and both universities boast large living alumni bases (over 665,000), along with a significant following from supporters throughout the state and nation. Being the two oldest public universities in the State of Texas, the rivalry has a history dating back over a century, with the first competition taking place in football in 1894. The College World Series (CWS), officially the NCAA Men's College World Series (MCWS), is a baseball tournament held each June in Omaha, Nebraska. Big 12/SEC Women's Challenge
The Big 12/SEC Women's Challenge was an NCAA Division I women's college basketball series that took place early in the season, consisting of a series of games featuring members of the Big 12 Conference and Southeastern Conference. In the first two seasons of the challenge (2014–15 and 2015–16), only two members of each conference were involved. Starting in the 2016–17 season, the series expanded to include all 10 members of the Big 12 and an equal number of the 14 SEC teams. Big 12 Conference Women's Basketball Tournament
The Big 12 Conference women's basketball tournament is the championship women's basketball tournament in the Big 12 Conference. The tournament is set to be held at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri until 2031. Due to a major conference realignment that significantly impacted the Big 12, the 2025 women's tournament will be the first tournament with 16 teams participating. At the beginning of the 2024–25 season, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah joined the conference. The tournament is sponsored by Phillips 66. The Tournament has been held every year since 1997, except in 2020 when it was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. All sixteen teams will participate in the tournament. Texas Longhorns Women's Basketball
The Texas Longhorns women's basketball team represents the University of Texas at Austin in NCAA Division I College basketball, intercollegiate women's basketball competition. The Longhorns compete in the SEC Conference. Under head coach Jody Conradt, the second National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA Division I basketball coach to win 900 career games (after Tennessee Lady Volunteers basketball, Tennessee's Pat Summitt), the Longhorns won the 1986 national championship.
