''Loksatta'' is an Indian newspaper. It was established on 14 January 1948. ''Loksatta'' gained notability through its coverage of Mahatma Gandhi's assassination and subsequent developments; the founder of the Indian Express Group, Ramnath Goenka Ramnath Goenka (22 April 1904 – 5 October 1991) was an Indian newspaper publisher. Kumar Ketkar
Kumar Ketkar is an Indian writer, politician and former journalist. He was the Chief Editor of Dainik Divya Marathi. He had started his journalistic career with ''The Economic Times''. He has also been the editor in chief of Marathi newspaper ''Loksatta.'' He has also worked with The Observer and the ''Maharashtra Times''. He is known for being a harsh critic of the BJP, RSS and Shiv Sena. On 12 March 2018 he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha on Congress ticket from Maharashtra. He is also a Member of Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs. Upon accepting the Rajya Sabha ticket, he faced severe criticism on the grounds that journalists should be independent and not support any mainstream political organisation. However, responding to such criticism, he said that his last assignment was in 2013 so 'technically' he was not a journalist. Madhav Yeshwant Gadkari
Madhav Yeshwant Gadkari (1928–2006) was an Indian journalist and the editor of Loksatta, a popular Marathi daily published by the Indian Express Group. He was also associated with the All India Radio, ''Maharashtra Times'', ''Sakal'' and their Goa edition, ''Gomantak Times'' Gomantak Times, 2015, Retrieved 27 September 2015 during his career. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian award of Padma Shri in 1990. The Marathi language has a long history of literature and culture. The first Marathi newspaper, ''The Bombay Durpun, Darpan'', was started on 6 January 1832 by Balshastri Jambhekar. The paper was bilingual fortnightly also published in English as ''The Bombay Durpun, The Bombay Darpan'' and stopped publishing in 1840. Founded in 1881 by Bal Gangadhar Tilak, the daily ''Kesari (Marathi newspaper), Kesari'' was a prominent newspaper of the pre-Independence era with a large readership. It claimed to have circulation of 3500 within two years of establishment and reached up to 22,000 during 1908. The Indian Express
''The Indian Express'' is an English-language Indian daily newspaper founded in 1932 by P. Varadarajulu Naidu. It is headquartered in Noida, owned by the ''Indian Express Group''. It was later taken over by Ramnath Goenka. In 1999, eight years after Goenka's death in 1991, the group was split between the family members. The southern editions took the name '' The New Indian Express'', while the northern editions, based in Mumbai, retained the original ''Indian Express'' name with ''The'' prefixed to the title.
