Logroño–Agoncillo Airport is the airport serving Logroño in the autonomous community of La Rioja, Spain. History This airport is located near Recajo village in the Agoncillo municipal term. It first opened as a military airport in 1923, when it was known as ''Aeródromo de Recajo''. It changed its name to ''Aeródromo de Agoncillo'' in 1932 when it was used by the Spanish Republican Air Force. In the late 1950s, the Spanish Air Force ceased most of its operations in Recajo and the aerodrome was transformed to an airport for civilian use. Logroño ( , , ) is the capital of the autonomous community of La Rioja (Spain), La Rioja, Spain. Recajo is a village within Agoncillo municipality in La Rioja province in northern Spain. It is located south of a bend on the Ebro River, about 4 km to the west of Agoncillo. Agoncillo () is a town and municipality in La Rioja province in northern Spain. Club Deportivo Agoncillo is a football team based in Agoncillo. It is believed that the name comes from an ancient Celtic settlement named Egon whose ruins lie near the town. The area was also populated in Ancient Roman times. Agoncillo is strategically located near the Ebro River, which historically marked the boundary between Castile and Navarre. It sits close to where the Jubera and Leza rivers converge, with the Leza River flowing into the Ebro nearby.
