Logical Biconditional
In logic and mathematics, the logical biconditional, also known as material biconditional or equivalence or bidirectional implication or biimplication or bientailment, is the logical connective used to conjoin two statements P and Q to form the statement "P if and only if Q" (often abbreviated as "P iff Q"), where P is known as the ''antecedent (logic), antecedent'', and Q the ''consequent''. Nowadays, notations to represent equivalence include \leftrightarrow,\Leftrightarrow,\equiv. P\leftrightarrow Q is logically equivalent to both (P \rightarrow Q) \land (Q \rightarrow P) and (P \land Q) \lor (\neg P \land \neg Q) , and the XNOR gate, XNOR (exclusive NOR) Logical connective, Boolean operator, which means "both or neither". A proposition is a statement that can be either true or false. It is a central concept in the philosophy of language, semantics, logic, and related fields. Arend Heyting
__NOTOC__ Arend Heyting (; 9 May 1898 – 9 July 1980) was a Dutch mathematician and logician. Biography Heyting was a student of Luitzen Egbertus Jan Brouwer at the University of Amsterdam, and did much to put intuitionistic logic on a footing where it could become part of mathematical logic. Heyting gave the first formal development of intuitionistic logic in order to codify Brouwer's way of doing mathematics. The inclusion of Brouwer's name in the Brouwer–Heyting–Kolmogorov interpretation is largely honorific, as Brouwer was opposed in principle to the formalisation of certain intuitionistic principles (and went as far as calling Heyting's work a "sterile exercise"). Jan Łukasiewicz
Jan Łukasiewicz (; 21 December 1878 – 13 February 1956) was a Polish logician and philosopher who is best known for Polish notation and Łukasiewicz logic. His work centred on philosophical logic, mathematical logic and history of logic. He thought innovatively about traditional propositional logic, the principle of non-contradiction and the law of excluded middle, offering one of the earliest systems of many-valued logic.
