Lluís Domènech I Montaner House-Museum
The Lluís Domènech i Montaner House-Museum (), in Canet de Mar, in the region of El Maresme, is a space dedicated to the study of the life and works of architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. The House-Museum includes the Domènech house, a work of the architect in collaboration with his son, Pere Domènech and his son-in-law, Francesc Guàrdia, and the 16th-century Can Rocosa farmhouse, which Domènech i Montaner converted into his workshop-study. The House-Museum is part of the Barcelona Provincial Council Local Museum Network. Exhibition The Lluís Domènech i Montaner House-Museum aims to introduce visitors to the architect's way of life while he lived at his Canet de Mar residence and architectural workshop. There are blueprints, sketches and photographs, both past and current, of some of the projects of Domènech i Montaner, as well as some emblematic pieces. Canet De Mar
Canet de Mar () is a Municipalities of Spain, municipality in the Comarques of Catalonia, ''comarca'' of the Maresme in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated on the coast between Arenys de Mar and Sant Pol de Mar. and el Montnegre ranges. It is a tourist centre, but is also known for the cultivation of flowers and strawberries and for having several modernist style buildings. Maresme
Maresme () is a ''comarca'' (county) in the Barcelona region in Catalonia, located along the Mediterranean coast, between the ''comarques'' of Barcelonès (at the Southwest) and Selva (at the Northeast), and also bordering with Vallès Oriental (at the west). Its capital and largest city is Mataró (pop. 119,035 in 2007). Geography Maresme occupies a long and narrow area between the Mediterranean Sea and the hills of Serralada Litoral (Catalonia's coastal mountains), and specifically Montnegre's and 's hills in the northern half and Sant Mateu's hills in the southern half. Lluís Domènech I Montaner
Lluís Domènech i Montaner (; 21 December 1850 – 27 December 1923) was a Catalan architect who was very much involved in and influential for the Catalan '' Modernisme català'', the Art Nouveau/ Jugendstil movement. He was also a Catalan politician. Born in Barcelona, he initially studied physics and natural sciences, but soon switched to architecture. He was registered as an architect in Barcelona in 1873. He also held a 45-year tenure as a professor and director at the Escola d'Arquitectura, Barcelona's school of architecture, and wrote extensively on architecture in essays, technical books and articles in newspapers and journals. His most famous buildings, the Hospital de Sant Pau and Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, have been collectively designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A blueprint is a reproduction of a technical drawing or engineering drawing using a contact print process on light-sensitive sheets introduced by Sir John Herschel in 1842. The process allowed rapid and accurate production of an unlimited number of copies. It was widely used for over a century for the reproduction of specification drawings used in Architectural drawing#Working drawings, construction and industry.
