Liz Fekete
Liz Fekete is director of the Institute of Race Relations, where she has worked since 1982. She researches racism, Islamophobia and far-right extremism in Europe. She also speaks to the media on these topics. Fekete was a member of the Campaign Against Racism and Fascism (CARF). Fekete's book ''A Suitable Enemy: Racism, migration and Islamophobia in Europe'' (Pluto Press, 2009) argued that European racism was shifting towards xenoracism in which discrimination operated on the level of religion or culture rather than skin colour. Reviewing it in the journal ''Translocations: Migration and Social Change'', Kathleen M. Coll said it was an "utterly absorbing and deeply disturbing analysis of the recent rise of Islamophobia throughout Europe". Institute Of Race Relations
The Institute of Race Relations (IRR) is a think tank based in the United Kingdom. It was formed in 1958 in order to publish research on race relations worldwide, and in 1972 was transformed into an "anti-racist think tank". Proposed by ''Sunday Times'' editor Harry Hodson, the institute began as the Race Relations Unit of the Royal Institute of International Affairs in 1952. Former Governor of the United Provinces Lord Hailey served as first chairman, while Philip Mason, formerly of the Indian Civil Service, served as its first director. Racism
Racism is the belief that groups of humans possess different behavioral traits corresponding to inherited attributes and can be divided based on the superiority of one Race (human categorization), race or ethnicity over another. It may also mean prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against other people because they are of a different ethnic background. Modern variants of racism are often based in social perceptions of biological differences between peoples. Islamophobia
Islamophobia is the irrational fear of, hostility towards, or hatred against the religion of Islam or Muslims in general. Islamophobia is primarily a form of religious or cultural bigotry; and people who harbour such sentiments often stereotype Muslims as a geopolitical threat or a source of Islamic terrorism, terrorism. Far-right Extremism
Far-right politics, often termed right-wing extremism, encompasses a range of ideologies that are marked by ultraconservatism, authoritarianism, ultranationalism, and Nativism (politics), nativism. This political spectrum situates itself on the far end of the right-wing politics, right, distinguished from more mainstream right-wing ideologies by its opposition to Liberal democracy, liberal democratic norms and emphasis on Exclusivism, exclusivist views. Campaign Against Racism And Fascism
Campaign Against Racism and Fascism (CARF) was an anti-racist group and publication based in London which originated in the mid-1970s as an anti-racist/anti-fascist paper published by the federation of Anti-Fascist Committees in Greater London (Anti-Racist, Anti-Fascist Co-ordinating Committee). From 1979 it appeared as a section within the anti-Fascist ''Searchlight'' magazine, produced by the CARF Collective based at the Institute of Race Relations, and later still it split with ''Searchlight'' to publish as an independent magazine for some years before closing down in 2003. Racism has been a recurring part of the history of Europe. Belarus Belgium Racism in Belgium existed since its independence declaration during the colonial era.
