Littlehampton, South Australia
Littlehampton is a village in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia, located on the Old Princes Highway. It is approximately 35 minutes from the Adelaide CBD via the South Eastern Freeway. At the time of the 2016 Australian census, Littlehampton had a population of 3,522. Littlehampton was laid out in 1849 by Benjamin Gray, who named it after his native town in Sussex. By 1890, the village had become a busy industrial centre with a sawmill, brewery and various manufacturers producing jams, sauces, bacon, wattle extract. There were five brick works. Littlehampton Bricks, which continues to operate today, was established in 1913, developing from another brickyard–Coppins–on the opposite side of the main road into Littlehampton. The Division of Mayo is an Australian electoral division located to the east and south of Adelaide, South Australia. Created in the state redistribution of 3 September 1984, the division is named after Helen Mayo, a social activist and the first woman elected to an Australian University Council. Mount Barker, South Australia
Mount Barker is a city in South Australia. Located approximately 33 kilometres (21 miles) from the Adelaide city centre, it is home to 16,629 residents. It is the seat of the District Council of Mount Barker, the largest town in the Adelaide Hills, as well as one of the fastest-growing areas in the state. Balhannah, South Australia
Balhannah is a town in the Adelaide Hills about 30 km southeast of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. It was established in 1839 as a farming community by James Turnbull Thomson, who built the first hotel. The town soon grew to incorporate two once adjoining towns: Gilleston (named for Osmond Gilles) and Blythetown, named for James Blythe, another Scottish settler. It is on the main interstate railway between Adelaide and Melbourne. In the past it was the junction for a branch line that ran up the Onkaparinga Valley and beyond to Birdwood and Mount Pleasant. Blakiston, South Australia
Blakiston is a town in the Australian state of South Australia. The town is located approximately south-east of the state capital of Adelaide, adjacent to the Princes Highway. Its postal code is 5250 – though it has no post office. Post is delivered to the neighbouring town of Littlehampton which shares the post code. The town and surrounding countryside make up around 16 square kilometres. At the 2016 census, the locality of Blakiston and some adjoining land in Littlehampton had a population of 381. Blakiston has been occupied by white settlers since 1846. The town was founded by Francis Davison and named for his ancestral home, Blakiston Hall in County Durham. Totness, South Australia
Totness consists mainly of industrial zoned areas. It is commonly referred to as Mount Barker or Littlehampton but is actually a locality of Mt Barker that was cut off from the rest of the town by the construction of the South Eastern Freeway in 1977. There is no street sign indicating you are entering Totness. Its windmill is the oldest surviving building in the - Mt Barker area. It is about from Mount Barker Post Office, and from Littlehampton Post Office, but the towns have almost merged due to growth. It is also home to the Totness Recreation Park. Totness was first subdivided in the 1880s, without regard to its contours. Paechtown, South Australia
Paechtown is a historic locality in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia. It is now on the southern side of the South Eastern Freeway almost opposite Hahndorf. Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Paech had bought thirteen 80-acre sections, named Friedrichstadt, with the name particularly applied to a subdivision of section 3913, Hundred of Kuitpo. The name Friedrichstadt was replaced by Tangari in 1918 as part of renaming many places with German-origin names, however neither name is used today. Paechtown is named for another early landowner, Christian Paech (unrelated to Johann Friedrich). The village was established in subdivisions of sections 3916 and 3917, Hundred of Kuitpo. South Eastern Freeway
South Eastern Freeway is a freeway in South Australia (SA). It is a part of the National Highway network linking the state capital cities of Adelaide, SA, and Melbourne, Victoria, and signed as National Highway M1. It carries traffic over the Adelaide Hills between Adelaide and the River Murray, near Murray Bridge, where it is connected via the Swanport Bridge to the Dukes Highway, which is the main road route to Victoria. It was formerly signposted as Princes Highway, which refers to the coastal route from Adelaide to Sydney via Melbourne. Littlehampton is a town, seaside resort, and pleasure harbour, and the most populous civil parish in the Arun District of West Sussex, England.
