The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and location information about more than two million physical and cultural features, encompassing the United States and its territories; the Compact of Free Association, associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau; and Antarctica. Pierz, Minnesota
Pierz is a city in Morrison County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,418 at the 2020 census. History Pierz was named for Father Francis Xavier Pierz (), a Slovenian Roman Catholic priest who came to Minnesota in the early 1850s as a missionary to the native Ojibwe people. The town was incorporated on January 12, 1892, under the name "Rich Prairie", but on August 15, 1894, the residents voted to change the name to Pierz in F. X. Pierz's honor. Geography Pierz is in eastern Morrison County. It is bordered to the south, east, and west by Pierz Township, also to the south by the city of Genola, and to the north by Buh Township. Minnesota State Highways 25 and 27 are the main routes in the city. Rice is a city in Benton County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,275 at the 2010 census. Its zip code also encompasses Graham, Langola, and Watab townships. Rice is part of the St. Cloud Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Originally an Ojibwe territory, Sand Prairie, saw its first settlers of European origin in the autumn of 1844. Under a mandate of the United States government and after the Ojibwe ceded their land in the Treaty of 1837, the Territory of Minnesota was established in 1849. Benton County became one of nine organized counties. The village of Rice was named after Massachusetts born hotelier and mill owner, George T. Rice. The city was named for Clarence B. Buckman, an early settler and member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Geography Buckman is in southeastern Morrison County, surrounded by the northern part of Buckman Township.
