The Little Eight Conference is a former high school athletic conference in Wisconsin. Founded in 1926 and dissolved in 1937, the conference and its member schools belonged to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association. History The Little Eight Conference was formed in 1926 by eight small high schools in west central Wisconsin: Altoona High School, Altoona, Augusta High School (Wisconsin), Augusta, Black River Falls High School, Black River Falls, Fairchild High School (Wisconsin), Fairchild, Fall Creek High School, Fall Creek, Humbird High School, Humbird, Merrillan High School, Merrillan and Osseo-Fairchild High School, Osseo. An athletic conference is a collection of sports teams which play competitively against each other in a sports league. In many cases conferences are subdivided into smaller Division (sport), divisions, with the best teams competing at successively higher levels. Conferences often, but not always, include teams from a common geographic region. The Coulee Conference is a high school athletic conference of medium-sized schools based in west central Wisconsin. Founded in 1926, it is one of Wisconsin's oldest athletic conferences and its member schools are affiliated with the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association. History 1926-1977 The Coulee Conference was formed in 1926 by six small high schools in west central Wisconsin: Bangor, Galesville, Holmen, Mindoro, Onalaska and West Salem. The original member schools were located in La Crosse and Trempealeau Counties, and the conference was named after the Coulee Region in the southwestern part of Wisconsin's Driftless Area. The Dairyland Conference is a high school athletic conference in west central Wisconsin. It was founded in 1959 and all member schools are affiliated with the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association. History 1959–1977 The Dairyland Conference was formed by six small high schools in west central Wisconsin in 1959. Three members came from the original Mississippi Valley Conference ( Augusta, Osseo and Whitehall) and the other three from the disbanded Trempealeau Valley Conference (Blair, Eleva-Strum and Independence). The Middle Border Conference is a high school athletic conference with its membership base concentrated in western Wisconsin. Formed in 1931, the conference is composed entirely of public schools and is affiliated with the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association. History 1931-1967 The Middle Border Conference was founded in 1931 by seven small- to medium-sized high schools on the outskirts of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area in western Wisconsin: Colfax, Ellsworth, Hudson, Menomonie, New Richmond, River Falls and Spring Valley. Altoona ( ) is a city in Eau Claire County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 8,292 at the 2020 census with an estimated population in 2022 of 9,149. The city is a railroad terminal on the Union Pacific Railroad. Trempealeau Valley Conference
The Trempealeau Valley Conference is a former high school athletic conference in Wisconsin. It was in existence from 1927 to 1959 and its member schools were affiliated with the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association. History The Trempealeau Valley Conference was formed in 1927 by six small high schools in close proximity to the Trempealeau River in the Driftless Area of Wisconsin: Alma Center, Blair, Hixton, Independence, Taylor and Whitehall. The conference remained a six-member loop for most of its existence, with the first change to membership coming in 1936, when Whitehall left the conference to join the Mississippi Valley Conference and were replaced by Melrose.
