Ohio State Route 18
State Route 18 (SR 18) is an east–west highway in northern Ohio. It is the sixth longest state route in the state. Its western terminus is at the Indiana state line near Hicksville, where the route continues in Indiana as State Road 8, and its eastern terminus is at State Route 91 in Akron. History State Route 18 was an original state highway that went from Norwalk to the Pennsylvania state line. The route was extended to the Indiana state line in 1926. Until 1950, it was one of a very few Ohio routes to end at two state lines. State Route 18's extension to the Indiana state line originally overlapped State Route 2 from the line to Hicksville. Josephine Sophia White Griffing
Josephine Sophia White Griffing (December 18, 1814 – February 18, 1872) was an American reformer who campaigned against slavery and for women's rights. In Litchfield, Ohio, their home was a stop on the Underground Railroad and she worked as a lecturer for the Western Anti-Slavery Society and Ohio Women's Rights Association. At the end of the American Civil War she moved to Washington, D.C., to help work with the unemployed freedmen. Much of her work was done through the Freedmen's Bureau, where she worked as an assistant to the assistant commissioner and as an agent. Griffing was also active in several women's rights organizations, including the National Woman Suffrage Association. Oviatt Cole was an American politician in Ohio. A Republican, he was Ohio State Auditor 1863–1864. When Ohio State Auditor Robert Walker Tayler, Sr. resigned in 1863 to take another position, Oviatt Cole of Medina County, Ohio was appointed by Governor Tod to fill the office.
