İzmir is the List of largest cities and towns in Turkey, third most populous city in Turkey, after Istanbul and Ankara. Ionian University Of Smyrna
The Ionian University of Smyrna () was a university established by the local Greek authorities during the Greek occupation of Smyrna (1919–1922), today İzmir, Turkey. The initiative for the organization of the institution was undertaken by the mathematician Constantin Carathéodory. However, the University of Smyrna, the first to be established in the city, never operated due to the Greek defeat in the Greco-Turkish War (1919–1922), Greco-Turkish War and the subsequent evacuation in September 1922. Education In Turkey
Education in Turkey is governed by a national system which was established in accordance with Atatürk's Reforms. It is a state-supervised system designed to produce a skillful professional class for the social and economic institutes of the country. Compulsory education lasts 12 years. Primary and secondary education is financed by the state and free of charge in public schools, between the ages of 6 and 19. Turkey has over 200 universities as of 2022. ÖSYS, after which high school graduates are assigned to university according to their performance. Turkey has 97% of primary school enrollment among all eligible children as of 2019.
