List Of Split Up Universities
This is a list of universities which were split into more than one new institution. Over the history numerous higher education institutions were split up or some scholars left already established institutions and established new ones. Some of the oldest medieval universities were established when students or faculty moved ''en masse'' from one town to another. Many of those splits were rampant, motivated by ideological, political or identity concerns. Among others, they include politically motivated mass breakup of French universities in the aftermath of protests of 1968 when in 1971 the total of fifteen universities was split up into 56 new ones or linguistic and communitarian breakup of Belgian universities. Following the split up, new institutions may either all be new independent legal entities, one may legally continue earlier institution in some capacity, or the rump institution may stay in place without seceded units. University Of Swaziland
The University of Eswatini (or UNESWA; formerly known as the University of Swaziland, or UNISWA) is the national university of Eswatini. It was established by act of parliament in 1982. The university is developed from the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland (UBLS), formerly known as the University of Basutoland, Bechuanaland and Swaziland (UBBS), which was established in 1964. It became the University of Botswana and Swaziland when the Lesotho campus withdrew to form the National University of Lesotho on 20 October 1975, and then became an independent national university in 1982. The university has eight (8) faculties, which are located in the three campuses of the university. These are: Kwaluseni, Luyengo and Mbabane (K,L,M). University Of Ceylon
The University of Ceylon was the only university in Sri Lanka (earlier Ceylon) from 1942 until 1972. It had several constituent campuses at various locations around Sri Lanka. The University of Ceylon Act No. 1 of 1972, replaced it with the University of Sri Lanka which existed from 1973 to 1978. In 1978 it was separated into four independent universities. These are the University of Colombo, the University of Peradeniya, University of Kelaniya ( Vidyalankara University) and the University of Sri Jayawardanapura ( Vidyodaya University). Sisavangvong University
Sisavangvong University was a university in Vientiane, Laos, established in 1958 and named after King Sisavangvong. Following the exodus of teaching staff in 1975 when the communists came to power in Laos, Sisavangvong University was dissolved and divided into separate colleges, leaving the country with no degree-awarding institution. Sukhumi State University
Sokhumi State University (In Georgian სოხუმის სახელმწიფო უნივერსიტეტი) is a state University, based in Tbilisi (Georgia). History The Pedagogical Institute was initially established on February 5, 1932 in Sokhumi. In 1979 the Sokhumi Pedagogical Institute reestablished itself as Abkhazian University. Abkhazian State University
The Abkhazian State University is the only university in Abkhazia. It was founded in 1979 on the basis of the Sukhumi Pedagogical Institute. Its first rector was Zurab Anchabadze. The study language is mainly Russian in the university. The university consists the departments of physics and mathematics, biology and geography, history, philology, economics, law; pedagogical and agro-engineering departments. The first college in Abkhazia, the ''Sukhumi Agro-pedagogical Institute'' was founded in 1932 and transformed into the ''Maxim Gorky Pedagogical Institute'' the following year. Following the rallies and street demonstrations in 1978 it was transformed into Abkhazian State University with Abkhaz, Georgian and Russian sections.
