Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands ( ) (alt. the Faroes) are an archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean and an autonomous territory of the Danish Realm, Kingdom of Denmark. Kaj Leo Holm Johannesen
Kaj Leo Holm Johannesen (born 28 August 1964 in Tórshavn) is a Faroese politician. He was the prime minister of the Faroe Islands, representing the Faroese Unionist Party ( Sambandsflokkurin). He took office, succeeding Jóannes Eidesgaard on 26 September 2008 and left office on 15 September 2015, after his party and coalition with Fólkaflokkurin and Miðflokkurin lost the general election on 1 September 2015. Johannesen is also a former international football player; he was goalkeeper for the Faroe Islands national football team. In the Faroese parliamentary elections, held on 29 October 2011 Kaj Leo Johannesen received 1979 personal votes. This is the largest number of personal votes ever given to a Faroese parliament candidate. He held this record until the general election 2015, when Aksel V. Johannesen received 2405 personal votes. Bárður á Steig Nielsen
Bárður á Steig Nielsen (; born 16 April 1972) is a Faroese politician and businessman who serves as leader of the Union Party since 2015 and was prime minister from 2019 to 2022. He is also goalkeeper of the VÍF Vestmanna handball team and a former handball player of the Faroe Islands national team. Education and business career Bárður á Steig Nielsen has finished the first part of a Danish HD education in Management accounting from Aarhus University, School of Business and Social Sciences and has taken some of the subjects of the ''Merkonom'' education from Føroya Handilsskúli. He started his business career as an employee in the accountancy firm ''Rasmussen og Weihe'' in Tórshavn 1993–2000. Jørgen Niclasen
Jørgen Niclasen (born 17 January 1969 in Sørvágur) is a Faroese politician. He served as the leader of the People's Party ( Fólkaflokkurin) from 2007 to 2022. On 2 October 2008, he was officially appointed Kaj Leo Johannesen's Deputy Prime Minister, which he was until the 2011 Faroese parliamentary election. He was reelected and became the Minister of Finance in the Cabinet of Kaj Leo Johannesen II. Heðin Mortensen
Heðin Mortensen (born April 7, 1946) is a Faroese politician and member of the Social Democratic Party. He was the mayor of the Municipality of Tórshavn, serving from January 1, 2021, and succeeded by Elsa Berg in 2024. He was also mayor from January 1, 2005, to December 31, 2016. Mortensen was born in Trongisvágur. He worked as a mechanic from 1961 to 1978, when he became an insurance agent for The Faroe Insurance Company (). He headed the Tórshavn Rowing Club from 1973 to 1979, the Tórshavn Athletics Association () from 1975 to 1978, and the Faroese Athletics Association () from 1980 to 2000. Jákup Mikkelsen (politician)
Jákup Nolsøe Mikkelsen (born 14 August 1970) is a Faroese former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He made 522 league appearances in representing six clubs in a career spanning 25 years, also representing his country at international level. A regular member of the Faroe Islands national team between 1995 and 2013, Mikkelsen won 73 caps, and in playing against Iceland on 16 August 2012 aged 42 years and one day, became the oldest goalkeeper ever to play an international match, the record that has since been surpassed by Colombian Faryd Mondragon. Progress () is a Liberalism, liberal, pro-Faroese independence List of political parties on the Faroe Islands, political party on the Faroe Islands. Poul Michelsen
Poul Johan Sundberg Michelsen (born 22 July 1944 in Tórshavn) is a Faroe Islands, Faroese business man and former politician. He was the leader of Progress (Faroe Islands), Progress (Framsókn), which he and others established in 2011. Before the establishment of Progress, he was a member of People's Party (Faroe Islands), People's Party (Fólkaflokkurin). In March 2020 he chose to leave the Parliament and ending his political career after struggling with sequelae of a stroke for some months. Kristin Michelsen
Kristin Michelsen (born 30 July 1956 in Froðba) is a Faroese politician (Self-Government). Background Michelsen is the son of Vilborg and Mikkjal Michelsen and grandson of the poet Poul F. Joensen. He is married to Joan N. Michelsen from Hvalba, with whom he has a daughter. He was employed in Sjóvinnubankin 1973–1978 and worked as a carpenter 1978–1984. From 1981–2003 he worked as an assistant policeman and principal at the police station and the sysselmann office in Suðuroy 1984–2003. Political career Michelsen has been mayor of Tvøroyri since 3 February 2003. In 2008 he wished be a candidate for the parliamentary elections, but was rejected due to the parties quota system based on sex.
