Althing
The (; ), anglicised as Althingi or Althing, is the Parliamentary sovereignty, supreme Parliament, national parliament of Iceland. It is the oldest surviving parliament in the world. The Althing was founded in 930 at ('Thing (assembly), thing fields' or 'assembly fields'), about east of what later became the country's capital, Reykjavík. After Iceland's union with Norway in 1262, the Althing lost its legislative power, which was not restored until 1904 when Iceland gained home rule from Denmark. For 641 years, the Althing did not serve as the parliament of Iceland; ultimate power rested with the Norwegian, and subsequently the Danish throne. Even after Iceland's union with Norway in 1262, the Althing still held its sessions at until 1800, when it was discontinued. It was restored in 1844 by royal decree and moved to Reykjavík. Grímur Grímsson
Grímur Grímsson is an Icelandic politician from the Viðreisn party. In the 2024 Icelandic parliamentary election he was elected to the Althing. He was a police officer for 40 years. He became the head of the police's central investigation department in February 2021. Eyjólfur Ármannsson
Eyjólfur Ármannsson (born 23 July 1969) is an Icelandic politician and lawyer currently serving as Minister of Infrastructure since 15 March 2025, and formerly as Minister of Transport and Local Government from 21 December 2024 to 15 March 2025. He has been a member of the Althing since 2021, representing the People's Party. Northeast () is one of the six multi-member Constituencies of Iceland, constituencies of the Althing, the national legislature of Iceland. Eydís Ásbjörnsdóttir
Eydís Ásbjörnsdóttir (born 22 June 1973) is an Icelandic politician and member of the Althing. A member of the Social Democratic Alliance, she has represented the Northeast constituency since November 2024. Eydís was born on 22 June 1973. She is from Eskifjörður. She completed her apprenticeship in hairdressing in 1998 and received a master's degree in hairdressing in 1999. She received a teaching qualification from the University of Akureyri (HA) in 2006. Diljá Mist Einarsdóttir (born 21 December 1987) is an Icelandic politician and lawyer. She has been a member of the Althing for the Independence Party in the Reykjavík North constituency since 2021. She was previously an assistant to Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iceland. Reykjavík North () is one of the six multi-member constituencies of the Althing, the national legislature of Iceland. The constituency was established in 2003 when the existing Reykjavík constituency was split into two. The constituency currently elects nine of the 63 members of the Althing using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2024 parliamentary election it had 47,600 registered electors. History In March 1843 King Christian VIII of Denmark issued a royal decree converting the Althing into a consultative assembly.
