The Governor of West Bengal is the nominal head of the Indian state of West Bengal. The governor is appointed by the president of India. C. V. Ananda Bose is the incumbent governor, having taken office on 18 November 2022. History In 1911 the imperial capital of India was moved from Calcutta to Delhi and as some compensation to Bengal the lieutenant governor with council gave place to a governor with a council thus completing the circle and reverting to the position which had been obtained 200 years ago. In 1947 India achieved independence and the title of ''Governor of Bengal'' remained. Emblem Of West Bengal
The Emblem of West Bengal is the official seal of the Government of the Indian state of West Bengal. Design The emblem consists of a circle depicting a globe with the state of West Bengal highlighted by a representation of the Bengali alphabet. The National Emblem of India appears above the globe and the emblem includes the name of the state in English (i.e. West Bengal) and in the Bengali language (i.e. ). The central element of the emblem was also used by the state government's Biswa Bangla campaign to promote the sale of traditional Bengali handicrafts and textiles. Historic emblems The current emblem was designed by Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of the state and was officially adopted in January 2018. Aliah University (AU; , ) is a public state university in New Town, West Bengal, India. Previously known as Mohammedan College of Calcutta, it was elevated to university in 2008. History The Aliah University (AU) is one of the oldest modern-style educational institutes in Asia, and first in India. It was set up in October 1780 by Warren Hastings, the British Governor general of East India Company near Sealdah in Calcutta.
