Lamia (; ), in ancient Greek mythology, was a child-eating monster and, in later tradition, was regarded as a type of night-haunting spirit or "daimon". In the earliest myths, Lamia was a beautiful queen of ancient Libya who had an affair with Zeus and gave birth to his children. Upon learning of this, Zeus's wife Hera robbed Lamia of her children, either by kidnapping them and hiding them away, killing them outright, or forcing Lamia to kill them. The loss of her children drove Lamia insane, and she began hunting and devouring others' children. Either because of her anguish or her cannibalism, Lamia was transformed into a horrific creature. Zeus gifted Lamia the power of prophecy and the ability to take out and reinsert her eyes, possibly because Hera cursed her with insomnia or the inability to close her eyes. Biography She graduated in 1995 from Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, Faculty of Theater and Television, acting specialization, in the class of professor Sorana Coroamă-Stanca. Agatha Bârsescu, also known by the name Agathe Barcesque (1857 – 1939), was a Romanian theatre actress, opera singer and teacher, known for her interpretations of Greek tragedies. Early life Agatha Bârsescu was born on 9 September 1857 in Bucharest, which was part of the Principality of Wallachia. She was born into a military family with her father being a colonel who was on good terms with the royal family. Her uncle was the minister of war, and her brother became a general. Her sister married a colonel. She spent part of her childhood in Bârsești where her father was stationed. At the age of 8, she and her cousin were sent to a boarding school in Sibiu, 275 km north-west of Bucharest, where she learned German. Leopoldina Bălănuță (; 10 December 1934 – 14 October 1998) was a Romanian actress. Biography She was born in her grandparents' house in Hăulișca, Vrancea County, the daughter of Neculai Bălănuță, a priest, and Sanda. She was a 1958 graduate of the Institute of Theatre and Film Arts (IATC), Bucharest. In 1967, Bălănuță was awarded the , fourth class. Her father was an Orthodox priest in Focșani. She was married to actor Mitică Popescu. She died in Bucharest, and was buried in the city's Bellu Cemetery. ''Eugenia'' is a genus of flowering plants in the myrtle family Myrtaceae. It has a worldwide, although highly uneven, distribution in tropical and subtropical regions. The bulk of the approximately 1,100 species occur in the New World tropics, especially in the eastern Brazil's northern Andes, the Caribbean, and the Atlantic Forest (coastal forests). Other centers of diversity include New Caledonia and Madagascar. Many species in the Old World have received a new classification into the genus ''Syzygium''. All species are woody evergreen trees and shrubs. Several are grown as ornamental plants for their attractive glossy foliage, and a few produce edible fruit that are eaten fresh or used in jams and jellies.
