It is run at Cologne over a distance of 1,600 metres (about 1 mile), every year in May. It is Germany's equivalent of the 2,000 Guineas Stakes, a famous race in England. History The event was established in 1871, and it was originally held at Hoppegarten as the Henckel-Rennen. It was named after the Henckel von Donnersmarck family. Diana-Trial
The Diana-Trial is a group 3 flat horse race in Germany, open to three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run over a distance of 2,000 metres (about 1¼ miles) at Hoppegarten in May or June. The race downgrade to Group 3 in 2022 History The event serves as a trial for the Preis der Diana. It was formerly named after the joint winners of that race in 1984, Las Vegas and Slenderella. It was originally contested at Mülheim over 2,100 or 2,200 metres. For a period the Las Vegas-Slenderella-Rennen was classed at Listed level. It became known as the Diana-Trial in the late 1990s. It was given Group 3 status in 2004, and from this point it was run at Cologne as the Schwarzgold-Rennen. It was promoted to Group 2 in 2006. The race reverted to the title Diana-Trial in 2008. Bavarian Classic
The Bavarian Classic is a Group 3 flat horse race in Germany open to three-year-old thoroughbreds. It is run at Munich over a distance of 2,000 metres (about 1¼ miles), and it is scheduled to take place each year in early May. History The event was established in 1969, and the inaugural running was titled the Preis des Kaufhauses Hertie. It became known as the Grosser Hertie-Preis in 1970, and for a period its distance ranged from 1,850 to 2,200 metres. It was given Group 2 status in 1977, and from this point it was regularly contested over 2,200 metres. The race was known as the Grosser Müller-Brot-Preis from 1997, and it was cut to 2,000 metres in 1998. It was downgraded to Group 3 level and renamed the Bavarian Classic in 2004. Schwarzgold-Rennen
The Schwarzgold-Rennen is a Group 3 flat horse race in Germany open to three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run over a distance of 1,600 metres (about 1 mile) at Cologne in May. History The event is named after Schwarzgold, a filly whose victories included the Preis der Diana and Deutsches Derby in 1940. "Schwarzgold-Rennen" is a previous title of several other races, including the German 1,000 Guineas (1941–88), the Hamburger Stutenmeile (1995–98) and the Diana-Trial (2004–07). The present Schwarzgold-Rennen, a trial for the German 1,000 Guineas, was introduced in 2008. It replaced the Kölner Herbst-Stuten-Meile, an autumn race for fillies and mares aged three or older. Since 2010, the race is run in memory of Baroness Karin von Ullmann, a former owner of Gestüt Schlenderhan, who died in 2009. Frühjahrs Dreijährigen-Preis
The Japan Racing Association Derby-Trial is a Conditions races, Group 3 Flat racing, flat Horse racing, horse race in Germany open to three-year-old thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 2,000 metres (about 1¼ miles) at Baden-Baden in late May or early June. History The event was established in 1965, and it was originally called the Adolf Schindling-Rennen. It was named in memory of Adolf Schindling (1887–1963), a Frankfurt-born businessman who owned the successful stud farm Gestüt Asta. The race was given Group 3 status in 1982. For a period it was sponsored by Steigenberger Hotels and run as the Preis der Steigenberger Hotels. It was later backed by BMW and titled the BMW Händler-Trophy. The banking company Metzler Bank, Bankhaus Metzler took over the sponsorship in 2000. The Silberne Peitsche is a Group 3 flat horse race in Germany open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run over a distance of 1,300 metres (about 6½ furlongs) at Munich in late April or early May. History The event was formerly run at Gelsenkirchen, and it used to be held in August. For a period it was contested over 1,400 metres. It was given Listed status in 1983. The race was extended to 1,450 metres in 1998. It was cut to 1,200 metres in 2000. The Silberne Peitsche was transferred to Cologne in 2002. It was promoted to Group 3 level and increased to 1,300 metres in 2007. It was moved to the spring in 2010. The race was switched to Munich in 2012. In 2014 the Silberne Peitsche is part of the Goldene Peitsche series. Frühjahrs-Meile
The Frühjahrs-Meile is a Group 3 flat horse race in Germany open to thoroughbreds aged four years or older. It is run over a distance of 1,600 metres (about 1 mile) at Düsseldorf in April. History The event was established in 1982, and it was originally called the Ostermann-Pokal. It was initially contested over 1,200 metres at Gelsenkirchen. For a period it was held in June, July or August and open to horses aged three or older. The Ostermann-Pokal was transferred to Cologne and extended to 1,600 metres in 1988. It was run under various sponsored titles after 1999. The race moved to Frankfurt and became known as the Grosse Hessen Meile in 2007. It was renamed the Frankfurter Meile, switched to April and closed to three-year-olds in 2010. The event was relocated to Düsseldorf and registered as the Frühjahrs-Meile in 2011. Baden Racing Stuten-Preis
The Baden Racing Stuten-Preis, race as T von Zastrow Stutenpreis is a Group 2 flat horse race in Germany open to thoroughbred fillies and mares aged three years or older. It is run at Baden-Baden over a distance of 2,400 metres (about 1 mile and 4 furlongs), and it is scheduled to take place each year in August or September. History The event was formerly staged at Bremen, and it used to be called the Grosser Stutenpreis von Bremen. For a period it held Listed status, and it was promoted to Group 3 level in 2004. The race distance was increased from 2,200 metres to 2,400 metres and promoted to Group 2 level in 2015. The race was renamed in memory of Walther J. Jacobs (1907–1998), the founder of the successful stud farm Gestüt Fährhof, in 2005. It continued as the Walther J. Jacobs-Stutenpreis until 2010. The event was transferred to Baden-Baden in 2011.
