Košice

Jiří Bicek
Jiří Bicek (born 3 December 1978) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey winger. He played in the National Hockey League with the New Jersey Devils between 2000 and 2004, winning the Stanley Cup with them in 2003. By doing so, Bicek became the first Slovak player to win the Stanley Cup. After returning to Europe in 2004, he spent the rest of his career playing in the national leagues of Slovakia, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland and the Czech Republic Internationally Bicek played for the Slovakia men's national ice hockey team, Slovak national team at several tournaments, including the 1997 Men's Ice Hockey World Championships, 1997 and 2009 IIHF World Championship, 2009 World Championships. János Esterházy
Count János Eszterházy (; rarely ; March 14, 1901 – March 8, 1957) was a prominent politician of Hungarian ethnicity in inter-war Czechoslovakia and later in the First Slovak Republic. He was a member of the Czechoslovak Parliament and of the Slovak Assembly. After the Second World War, he was illegally deported to the Soviet Union, sentenced on trumped-up charges at a show trial, and imprisoned. In the meantime, he was sentenced, in absentia, to death by the National Court in Bratislava on the charges of High Treason to the State, collaboration with the enemy, the breaking-up of Czechoslovakia and his participation in an anti-democratic regime as a deputy of the Slovak Assembly. The sentence was not executed as a consequence of a Presidential pardon, following his return to Czechoslovakia from the Soviet Union. He died in prison in 1957. Gabriela Dzuríková
Gabriela Dzuríková (born 18 March 1973) is a Slovak actress. Biography Gabriela Dzúriková was born on 18 March 1973 in Košice. She studied acting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. Already as a student, Dzúriková appeared in plays at the Slovak National Theatre. Following graduation, she successfully applied for a permanent role at the theatre following the urging of the actor Martin Huba. As of 2024, she is still a member of the cast at the Slovak National Theatre. In addition to stage acting she appeared in a large number of television series, including Odsúdené (2009) and Oteckovia (2022). Dzúriková occasionally appeared in feature films. Czech Extraliga
The Czech Extraliga () is the highest-level ice hockey league in the Czech Republic. It was created in 1993 following the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia midway through the 1992–93 Czechoslovak Extraliga season (which all Slovak and Czech teams played to completion). The league's season usually takes place between September and April and features 14 teams. Teams from the ELH participate in the IIHF's annual European tournament in the CHL. During the 2022–23 CHL season, the ELH was ranked the No. 5 league in Europe, allowing them to send their top three teams to compete in the CHL. Vladimír Dravecký (born 3 June 1985) is a Slovak ice hockey player who is currently playing for the HC Ocelari Trinec in the Czech Extraliga. Career Dravecký is a product of the HC Košice youth system. He debuted at the Extraliga in the 2001–02 season. His breakthrough came in the 2003–04 season, playing 43 games in the regular season. On 21 May 2007, he signed a 2-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings. Erna Diez
Erna Diez (8 April 1913 - 1 December 2001) was an Austrian classical archaeologist who undertook significant work on Roman art and the archaeology of the provinces of Noricum and Pannonia. Early life and education Diez was born in Kaschau in 1913. Diez studied classical philology, archaeology, art history and history at the University of Vienna and graduated from the University of Graz. In 1937 she earned her doctorate, with a thesis entitled "Quomodo Valerius Maximus res in factorum and dictorum memorabilium libris IX narratas exornaverit". Lajos Csordák
Lajos Csordák (2 February 1864 in Košice, Kassa, Kingdom of Hungary – 28 June 1937 in Košice, Kosice, Czechoslovakia) was a Hungarians, Hungarian painter. Csordák started to study painting around 1880. In 1883, his whole family moved to Munich. From 1889 to 1895 he studied at Academy of Fine Arts, Prague, under the guidance of Czech landscape painter Julius Mařák, and became a member of the artistic group Mánes Union of Fine Arts. After 1908, he lived permanently in Košice, Kassa. In painting he specialised on landscapes using dry materials pastels. He was influenced by impressionism in his works. Erik Černák
Erik Černák (born 28 May 1997) is a Slovak professional ice hockey defenceman for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round, 43rd overall, in the 2015 NHL entry draft. Černák won back-to-back Stanley Cup championships with the Lightning in 2020 and 2021. Playing career Černák began his youth career with HC Košice before playing one season in the junior youth hockey team within the Slovan Bratislava system before returning to HC Košice's youth team on 11 June 2013. Michal Čekovský (born June 17, 1994) is a Slovak basketball player. He played college basketball for the University of Maryland. College career After one year with the Canarias Basketball Academy, Čekovský committed to Maryland in 2014. Professional career Čekovský started his career with Považská Bystrica from Trenčín Region.
