List Of Operas By Josef Mysliveček
This is a complete list of the operas of the Czech composer Josef Mysliveček (1737–1781). All of Mysliveček's operas are examples of opera seria (genre: ''dramma per musica'') and in three acts. List Note: There is no reason to believe that any of the following productions cited in earlier musicological literature ever took place: ''Medea'' (Parma, 1764); ''Erifile'' (Munich, 1773); ''Achille in Sciro'' (Naples, 1775); and ''Merope'' (Naples, 1775). Furthermore, there is no reason to believe that Mysliveček contributed any music to a production of ''Armida'' that took place in Lucca in 1778.Documentation of how all of these spurious productions entered the musicological literature is found in Catalog II of Freeman, ''Josef Mysliveček''. The cantata ''Il Parnaso confuso'' is sometimes referred to in error as Mysliveček's first opera. Josef Mysliveček
Josef Mysliveček (9 March 1737 – 4 February 1781) was a Czech composer who contributed to the formation of late eighteenth-century classicism in music. Mysliveček provided his younger friend Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with significant compositional models in the genres of symphony, Italian serious opera, and violin concerto; both Wolfgang and his father Leopold Mozart considered him an intimate friend from the time of their first meetings in Bologna in 1770 until he betrayed their trust over the promise of an operatic commission for Wolfgang to be arranged with the management of the Teatro San Carlo in Naples. His closeness to the Mozart family resulted in frequent references to him in the Mozart correspondence. Teatro San Benedetto
The Teatro San Benedetto was a theatre in Venice, particularly prominent in the operatic life of the city in the 18th and early 19th centuries. It saw the premieres of over 140 operas, including Rossini's ''L'italiana in Algeri'', and was the theatre of choice for the presentation of ''opera seria'' until La Fenice was built in 1792. History The small, elegant theatre was first constructed by Grimani, Michele Grimani on land owned by the House of Venier, Venier family. It was inaugurated on 26 December 1755 with a performance of Gioacchino Cocchi's opera ''Zoe''. In 1766 the ownership of the San Benedetto passed from Grimani to a consortium of Patrician (post-Roman Europe), patrician families in Venice who had been Box (theatre), box holders at the theatre. The original design of the theatre was circular. However it was rebuilt in the traditional horseshoe shape following a fire on February 5, 1774. Antigona (Mysliveček)
''Antigona'' is an Italian opera in three acts by the Czech composer Josef Mysliveček set to a libretto by Gaetano Roccaforte. All of Mysliveček's are of the serious type in Italian language referred to as opera seria. Performance history The opera was first performed at the Teatro Regio in Turin on 26 December 1773 at the beginning of the 1774 carnival operatic season. Opera productions at the royal court of Turin, which were sponsored only for the carnival season that took place at the beginning of each year, were famed for their lavish staging. ''Antigona'' was the last opera Mysliveček composed for Turin; there is no information concerning its reception. The most distinguished cast member was the castrato Venanzio Rauzzini.
