2025 Greenlandic General Election
General elections were held in Greenland on 11 March 2025 to elect the 31 members of the Inatsisartut. The opposition Democrats won a plurality of ten seats. Background Independence was the most important issue of the election. The government declared in February 2024 that independence was its goal. At a press conference in early 2025, pro-independence prime minister Múte Bourup Egede said that "work has already begun on creating the framework for Greenland as an independent state" and apparently hinted that an independence referendum could take place in April 2025, in tandem with the election. In addition to the five parties already represented in the Inatsisartut, a new sixth party with a primary focus on Greenlandic independence, Qulleq, gained ballot access a month before the election. Nivi Rosing
The New International Version Inclusive Language Edition (NIVi) of the Christian Bible was an inclusive language version of the New International Version (NIV). It was published by Hodder and Stoughton (a subsidiary of Lagardere Publishing) in London in 1995; New Testament and Psalms, with the full bible following in 1996. It was only released in the United Kingdom and British Commonwealth Countries. In 1997, an article by ''World Magazine'' accused the NIVi of being "a feminist seduction of the evangelical church". This led to a protest in evangelical circles, led by James Dobson. A meeting led by Dobson released the Colorado Springs Guidelines, a set of guidelines on gender in Bible translation. Múte Bourup Egede
Múte Inequnaaluk Bourup Egede (; born 11 March 1987) is a Greenlandic politician who served as the 7th Prime Minister of Greenland from 2021 to 2025. He has also served as Chairman of the Inuit Ataqatigiit since December 2018, and a Member of the Inatsisartut since May 2015. Early life Múte Inequnaaluk Bourup Egede was born in Nuuk on 11 March 1987. He grew up in Narsaq and was educated in Qaqortoq before studying cultural and social history at the University of Greenland in 2007. He was the vice chairman of the Greenlandic Academic Student Society from 2011 to 2012. He did not finish his studies and dropped out in 2013 to take over the family fodder company started by his father. Mariane Paviasen Jensen
Mariane Paviasen (born ) is a Greenlandic politician. She was elected to the Inatsisartut, the parliament of Greenland, during the 2021 general election. She is a member of the Inuit Ataqatigiit party and a vocal opponent to uranium mining. Early life and career Mariane Paviasen was born in either 1964 or 1965. She is a staunch critic of uranium mining. She was concerned about plans to operate an open-pit mine in Narsaq, which would have exposed residents to uranium. In 2013, she formed the (Greenlandic for "Uranium? No") movement in response. She publicly raised her concerns about uranium mining with Erik Jensen, the minister for mineral resources, in a 2019 town hall meeting. Prior to her election in the Greenlandic parliament, she worked for a helicopter company at Narsaq.
