Below is a list of members of the European Parliament serving in the tenth term (2024–2029). The term began on 16 July 2024. In the preceding European Parliament election, 720 MEPs were elected, up from 705 after reallocating seats which were freed up after Brexit. 2014 European Parliament Election In Austria
The 2014 European Parliament election in Austria was held on 25 May 2014 in Austria. As a result of the Lisbon Treaty Austria held 19 seats in the European Parliament, but with Croatia joining the Union in 2013, Austria's allocation was reduced to 18 seats. Background Three Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) decided to stand in the election again, but not for their original parties. They are Martin Ehrenhauser (former member of Hans-Peter Martin's List), Ewald Stadler (formerly top candidate for the Alliance for the Future of Austria) and Angelika Werthmann (former member of Hans-Peter Martin's List). Ehrenhauser is now top candidate for the left-wing electoral alliance "Europe Different" ''(Europa Anders)'', which includes the Communists and the Pirate Party. Alexander Bernhuber (born 18 May 1992) is an Austrian politician of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) who was elected as a Member of the European Parliament in 2019. Early life and education Bernhuber attended the Federal Institute of Education and Research Francisco Josephinum which trains farmers, agricultural and food technologists and agricultural computer scientists. Austrian People's Party
The Austrian People's Party ( , ÖVP ) is a Christian-democratic and liberal-conservative political party in Austria. Since January 2025, the party has been led by Christian Stocker (as an acting leader). It is currently the second-largest party in the National Council, with 51 of the 183 seats, and won 26.3% of votes cast in the 2024 legislative election. Gerald Hauser (born 30 September 1961) is an Austrian politician who is a member of European Parliament, and formerly a member of the National Council, for the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ). Early life Hauser attended elementary school between 1968 and 1972 and then went to the Realgymnasium in Linz, where he graduated in 1980. He then began studying business education at the University of Innsbruck, which he completed in 1985. In 1985, Hauser began teaching at the commercial academy and commercial school in Lienz. In addition to his work as a teacher, Hauser has been the tourism chairman of the municipality of St. Jakob in Defereggen since 1988. 2019 European Parliament Election In Austria
An election was held in Austria on 26 May 2019 to elect the country's 18 Member of the European Parliament, members of the European Parliament. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) gained two seats for a total of seven, while the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) and The Greens – The Green Alternative, The Greens each lost one. The election took place nine days after the start of the Ibiza affair, which led to the resignation of Vice-Chancellor and FPÖ leader Heinz-Christian Strache and the collapse of the federal ÖVP–FPÖ government. The European election was seen as a victory for the ÖVP and a defeat for the FPÖ, who were forecasted to perform substantially better.
