The Independence Award (), formally known as the Independence Day Award or Swadhinata Padak (), is the highest state award given by the government of Bangladesh. Introduced in 1977 by President Ziaur Rahman, this award is bestowed upon Bangladeshi citizens or organizations in recognition of substantial contributions to one of many fields, including the War of Liberation, the Language Movement, education, literature, journalism, public service, science and technology, medical science, social science, song, games and sports, fine arts, rural development, and other areas. Each awardee receives a gold medal, a certificate of honour, and 500,000 Bangladeshi takas (US$4109). Kazi Abul Monsur
Kazi Abul Monsur (1918 – 20 February 1996) was a physician and microbiologist of Bangladesh. He was awarded Independence Day Award posthumously in 1996 by the Government of Bangladesh for his contribution in the field of medical science. Early life and education He was born on 4 March 1918 to the aristocratic Kazi family of Rajapur in Boalmari, Faridpur district, Bengal Presidency. His father, Kazi Abdur Rashid, was a moulvi and his mother, Begum Syedunnesa, was a housewife. Sabina Yasmin
Sabina Yasmin (born 4 September 1954), is a Bangladeshi singer. She is best known as a playback singer in Bengali cinema. She has won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer a record 14 times. She has recorded more than 1,500 songs for films and more than 10,000 songs in total. Mohammad Abdul Jabbar (10 February 1938 – 30 August 2017) was a Bangladeshi singer. ''"Tumi Ki Dekhechho Kobhu Jiboner Porajoy"'', ''"Salam Salam Hajar Salam"'' and ''" Joy Bangla, Banglar Joy"'' were three of his songs which made it to the top 20 all-time Bangla songs in 2006 survey by the BBC Bangla. Anjuman Mufidul Islam ( ''Beneficial Assembly of Islam'') is a Bangladeshi welfare organisation specially designed to enrich the livelihood of orphans and the distressed. History Sheikh Ibrahim Mohammed Dupley, a resident of Surat, formed Anjuman Mufidul Islam in Kolkata in 1905. Khawaja Nazimuddin, A. K. Fazlul Huq, Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy successfully directed the activities of this organisation as presidents. After the Partition of India in 1947, the Anjuman's chief administrative officer S.M. Zakaria Pintoo (; 1 January 1943 – 18 November 2024), alternatively spelled Zakaria Pintu, was a Bangladeshi footballer who played as a defender. He was the first captain of the Bangladesh national team. Pintoo gained fame as the captain of the Shadhin Bangla football team during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Before the country's independence, Pintoo represented both the Pakistan national football team and the East Pakistan football team, captaining the latter on numerous occasions. Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu is a Bangladeshi social worker. She is the mother-in-law of politician Tarique Rahman and wife of former Bangladesh Navy chief Mahbub Ali Khan. Ferdausi Rahman
Ferdausi Rahman (; born 28 June 1941) is a Bangladeshi playback singer. She sang some popular film songs for Pakistani films also in the 1960s especially working with the music composer Robin Ghosh in film Chakori released in 1967.
