Baltic Cable
The Baltic Cable is a monopolar HVDC power line running beneath the Baltic Sea that interconnects the electric power grids of Germany and Sweden. Its maximum transmission power is 600 megawatts (MW). The Baltic Cable uses a transmission voltage of 450 kV – the highest operating voltage for energy transmission in Germany. The total project cost was 2 billion SEK (US$280 million), and the link was put into operation in December 1994. With a length of , it was the second longest high voltage undersea cable on earth, until Basslink came into service in 2006. Route The Baltic Cable is the only interconnector between the price zones Germany/Luxemburg (DE/LU) and Sweden 4 (SE4) and starts in Germany at the converter station at Lübeck-Herrenwyk, which is on the site of a former coal-fired power station, It crosses the river Trave in a channel below the bottom of the river and then follows its course as sea cable laid at the eastern side of the river. Visby is also the episcopal see for the Diocese of Visby. The Hanseatic League, Hanseatic city of Visby is arguably the best-preserved Middle Ages, medieval city in Scandinavia, and, since 1995, it has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. Among the most notable historical remains are the long Visby City Wall, town wall that encircles the town center, and a List of church ruins on Gotland, number of church ruins. The decline as a Hanseatic city in the Late Middle Ages was the cause for many stone houses being preserved in their original medieval style. HVDC Visby–Näs
The HVDC Visby–Näs is a bipolar HVDC electric power transmission system between Visby and a wind power centre near Näs on Gotland, Sweden. The project went into service in 1999. The system operates at 80 kV with a maximum power of 50 megawatts. This HVDC system allows for voltage regulation in the connected AC systems. Because obtaining a right-of-way for an overhead line is a lengthy and expensive procedure, the 70 kilometer line is constructed as an underground cable. Since an alternating current Alternating current (AC) is an electric current that periodically reverses direction and changes its magnitude continuously with time, in contrast to direct current (DC), which flows only in one direction. Alternating current is the form in w ... three-phase underground cable would have been more expensive, the HVDC system was selected for this project. SydVästlänken
SydVästlänken () is a project for reinforcement of power grids in Southern Sweden and Oslo area in Norway. The project to be implemented by Swedish and Norwegian national grids operators Svenska kraftnät and Statnett. Aim The southern part of the Nordic power grid between Sweden and Norway is relatively vulnerable for disruptions and quite often there are bottlenecks for power transmission. While in dry periods and low consumption periods problems are related to the West coast in Sweden, in periods with high hydroproduction and peak consumption problems are mainly related to the grid in Oslo area in Norway (the so-called Hasle-trappen). Western branch will not be built 2013-04-29 Swedish power grid, together with Statnett decided not to implement the project south-western branch of the link between backbone stations Barkeryd and Tveiten. New calculations show that the benefits have been reduced significantly compared with the original analyzes. Western branch will not be buil ... The island of Gotland and the other areas of the province of Gotland make up less than one percent of Sweden's total land area. The county formed by the archipelago is the second smallest by area and is the least populated in Sweden. Västervik is a city status in Sweden, city and the seat of Västervik Municipality, Kalmar County, Sweden, with 36,747 inhabitants in 2021. Västervik is one of three coastal towns with a notable population size in the province of Småland. Climate Västervik has a semi-continental type of the oceanic climate (Köppen climate classification, Cfb) using the -3°C isotherm, and a true humid continental climate (Dfb) using the 0°C isotherm, with vast differences between seasons. The major weather station in the area is in Gladhammar west of Västervik. Differences are likely to be minor, with precipitation normals being available in greater detail for Västervik's station. Overnight lows may be the biggest difference, due Västervik's coastal position. Economy The city still bases much of its industry on its harbour, and on the industries that were established as a result of it in the late 19th century. HVDC Gotland
The HVDC Gotland, on the Swedish east coast, was the first fully commercial static plant for high-voltage direct current transmission (HVDC) in the world. Gotland 1 The first HVDC Gotland link (Gotland 1) went into service in 1954. It could transfer 20 megawatts over a 98-kilometer-long submarine cable between Västervik on the mainland and Ygne on the island of Gotland, with a voltage of 100 kV. As a static inverter, Mercury arc valves were used. The Swedish company ASEA manufactured the connection for Vattenfall, the state-owned energy provider. In 1970 the service was re-engineered to transmission capacity of 30 megawatts at a voltage of 150 kV by using the first thyristor module for HVDC applications. Gotland 2 However even this capacity was not high enough and in 1983 a new monopolar link, HVDC Gotland 2 with a transmission capacity of 130 MW and a transmission voltage of 150 kV was established. It consists of a 92.9 kilometers long cable with a single copper conduc ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   [Amazon] |
