Lisgar, Mississauga
Lisgar is a residential neighbourhood in the city of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. It is located in the extreme northwestern corner of the city, bordering the larger Meadowvale district to the east and the Churchill Meadows neighbourhood to the south. It is named after the former hamlet located at the corner of Winston Churchill Boulevard and Derry Road, which is actually outside the present neighbourhood in Meadowvale. History The hamlet of Lisgar was settled in the early nineteenth century and was later named in honour of the 1st Baron Lisgar, the Governor General of Canada from 1869 until 1872. Prior to this, however, it was known as Switzer's Corners, after Samuel Switzer, who owned much of the land that the small hamlet was built on. A dead end, also known as a ''cul-de-sac'' (; , ), a no-through road or a no-exit road, is a street with only one combined inlet and outlet. Dead ends are added to roads in urban planning designs to limit traffic in residential areas. Some dead ends prohibit all-through traffic, while others allow cyclists, pedestrians, or other non-automotive traffic to pass through connecting easements or paths. The latter case is an example of filtered permeability. The International Federation of Pedestrians proposed calling such streets "living end streets" and to provide signage at the entry of the streets that clearly indicates non-automotive permeability. Peel County, Ontario
Peel County is a historic county in the Canadian province of Ontario. Named for Sir Robert Peel, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the county was organized in 1851. Settlers, however, were in Toronto Township as early as 1807. The Credit River was reserved for the Mississaugas; however, they sold their land and moved to the Bruce Peninsula. Toronto Township is a former municipality now mostly part of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, with its northern extremity now a part of Brampton. It was directly west of but not part of the City of Toronto (which was named York, Upper Canada, York at the time of the township's establishment), and its land area makes up the majority of present-day Mississauga. John Young, 1st Baron Lisgar (31 August 1807 – 6 October 1876), known from 1848 to 1870 as Sir John Young, Young baronets, 2nd Baronet, was a British diplomat and politician who served as the second governor general of Canada from 1869 to 1872. Winston Churchill Boulevard is a long north-south roadway that predominantly forms the western boundary of Peel Region with the eastern boundaries of Halton Region and part of Wellington County, in Ontario, Canada. Churchill Meadows is a suburban residential neighbourhood located in the westernmost area of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. In 2016, Churchill Meadows had a population of 47,800.
