Lionsgate Films (spelled as Lions Gate until 2005, and formerly Cinépix Film Properties until 1998) is a Canadian-American film production and distribution company founded in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on June 15, 1962. It was owned by Lionsgate from 1997 to 2024, and Lionsgate Studios (which spun off its television and film business) since 2024, and is now headquartered in Santa Monica, California. Lionsgate is the largest and most successful mini-major film studio in North America. Good Universe is an American film production company founded by Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane. History In Spring 2012, Good Universe was launched as longtime partners Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane transitioned out of Lionsgate, where Drake served as the president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group and Kahane as the president of Mandate Pictures. The company launched at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.
