Linköping Motorstadion
Linköping Motorstadion also called the Sviestad Motorstadion is a multi-use facility that includes track racing, road racing, motocross, motorcycle speedway, rallycross, karting and traffic training. It is located in Hackefors, which is on the south east outskirts of Linköping, Sweden. History The facility was built in 1965 as a practice site for traffic training. Adjacent to the traffic training and road racing facilities is a motorcycle speedway track. The speedway track hosted the Nordic Speedway Final in 1969 and 1990. It was also the home of the speedway team called Filbyterna who competed in the Swedish Speedway Team Championship at the venue from 1978 until their closure in 2010. The stadium hosted the World Championship round called the Speedway Grand Prix of Sweden from 1995 to 2000. Hackefors
Hackefors () is a city district in southeastern Linköping in Östergötland. It is located east of Stångån in Landeryd parish. Hackefors consists largely of residential buildings. There are also jogging tracks in Hackefors, Åbysäcken, of 2 km, 2.9 km, 5 km and 6.4 km. The Hackefors area was originally a place separate from Linköping, where over the years many renowned companies have been located, such as Malte Månson, Data-Saab and Ericsson. Hackefors had around 300 inhabitants in 1965. Since 1970 Hackefors has grown together with Linköping. The name Hackefors originated from man's name Hake. Hake was probably a significant person who had possession of this stretch of Stångån. Hackefors village was at Stångån and consisted of Norrgården ("North manor") and Södergården ("South manor"), each with its associated mill at the falls. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Filbyterna
Filbyterna were a Swedish motorcycle speedway team based at the old Linköping Motorstadion in Ryd (1948–1977) and the Linköping Motorstadion (1978–2010), near Linköping, Sweden. They were twice champions of Sweden. History 1948 to 1958 The team were one of the seven inaugural members of the Swedish speedway league, which started during the 1948 Swedish speedway season. Based in Linköping their official name was Linköping MK but they took the nickname Filbyterna. They won the first league (known as the Dirt Track League) in 1948 and became the first Swedish Speedway Team Championship winners. In 1950 they won their second team championship. The Swedish Speedway Team Championship is the team championship of motorcycle speedway, speedway in Sweden. History The Championship was introduced in 1950. In 1982 the Championship was renamed with a new league called the Elitserien (speedway), Elitserien being introduced.
