Linhas Aéreas Paulistas (LAP) was a Brazilian airline founded in 1943. In 1951 it was bought and merged into Lóide Aéreo Nacional. History Linhas Aéreas Paulistas (LAP) S.A. was founded in 1943 but the first meeting of shareholders took place only on February 9, 1945. In June 1945 LAP was given authorization to operate and in 1946 flights from São Paulo to Recife via the coast started. Later, flights were extended beyond Recife, to Campina Grande. In February 1947 LAP started to operate also between São Paulo-Congonhas and Rio de Janeiro-Santos Dumont. In 1948 services were extended to Fortaleza and Natal. In 1951 Lóide Aéreo Nacional bought the airline. Lóide Aéreo Nacional S/A was a Brazilian airline founded in 1947 as Transporte Carga Aérea (TCA). It was renamed Lóide Aéreo Nacional in 1949, after it merged with Linhas Aéreas Paulistas (LAP) and Transportes Aéreos Bandeirantes (TABA). It operated until 1962 when it was incorporated into VASP. History On December 22, 1947, Ruy Vacani founded the airline TCA – Transportes Carga Aérea S.A. in Anápolis, State of Goiás, Brazil, an airline specialized in transportation of cargo. Previously, in 1928, Vacani had also founded ETA - Empresa de Transporte Aéreo an airline that lasted for only for one year, being sold to NYRBA do Brasil. Vacani had good political connections with the then president Getúlio Vargas, who apparently favored his business. Aeroporto Internacional do Recife/Guararapes–Gilberto Freyre is the airport serving Recife, Brazil. Since December 27, 2001 it is named after the Recife-born Anthropologist and Sociologist Gilberto de Mello Freyre (1900–1987). Some of its facilities are shared with the Recife Air Force Base of the Brazilian Air Force. Since 2019 it is operated by AENA. The Curtiss C-46 Commando is a low-wing, twin-engine aircraft derived from the Curtiss CW-20 pressurized high-altitude airliner design. Early press reports used the name "Condor III" but the Commando name was in use by early 1942 in company publicity. It was used primarily as a cargo aircraft during World War II, with fold-down seating for military transport and some use in delivering paratroops. Mainly deployed by the United States Army Air Forces, it also served the U.S. Navy/ Marine Corps, which called it R5C. The C-46 filled similar roles as its Douglas-built counterpart, the C-47 Skytrain, with some 3,200 C-46s produced to approximately 10,200 C-47s. The Lockheed Model 14 Super Electra was an American civil passenger and cargo aircraft built by the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation during the late 1930s. An outgrowth of the earlier Model 10 Electra, the Model 14 was also developed into larger, more capable civil and military versions. Design and development The design, developed by a team led by Don Palmer, was a scaled-up version of the original Model 10 Electra, with passenger seating increased from 10 to 14.
