Linhares
Linhares is a Municipalities of Brazil, municipality in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil, north of the state capital, Vitória, Brazil, Vitória. It is the largest municipality by area in the state, at 9,501.6 km2, and has a population of 176,688 people as of 2020. The municipality is named in honor of Rodrigo de Souza Coutinho, Counts and Dukes of Linhares, Count of Linhares, who was a minister in the Brazilian government in the first two decades of the 19th century. The city took international knowledge, being the residence of Miss Gay Brazil 2013 and 2014. History The area today known as Linhares was once inhabited by the Botocudo. The town, founded by Europeans on August 22, 1800, was destroyed by the Indians during a war in 1809. Count of Linhares (in Portuguese ''Conde de Linhares'') was a Portuguese title of nobility created by a royal decree of king John III of Portugal dated from May 13, 1532, and granted to ''Don (honorific), Dom'' António de Noronha, Conde de Linhares, António de Noronha, 2nd son of Pedro II of Menezes, 1st Marquis of Vila Real, Pedro de Menezes, 1st Marquis of Vila Real. This family went to live in Spain and remained faithful to the Spanish Habsburgs even after the Portuguese revolution of 1 December 1640, so the new dynasty of Braganza no longer recognized them as Counts of Linhares. Juparanã Lagoon
The Juparanã Lagoon is a lagoon located between the municipalities of Linhares, Rio Bananal and Sooretama, in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil. It is one of the largest lagoons in the country in freshwater volume. The main access is through km 137 of BR-101 north, 12 km from the center of Linhares. With a total area of 62.06 km2, the water body is the largest lake within a set of coastal lagoons that are inserted in the Doce River basin. The Juparanã Lagoon communicates with the Doce River through the Pequeno River in Linhares. Its maximum depth reaches 21 m. Description The name "''juparanã''" comes from Tupi and means "freshwater sea." The Goytacazes National Forest () is a national forest in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil. Location The Goytacazes National Forest is in the municipality of Linhares, Espírito Santo. Sooretama Biological Reserve
Sooretama Biological Reserve ( is a Biological reserve (Brazil), biological reserve in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil. History The area at present occupied by the reserve consists of two areas; one of was formerly the Parque de Refugio e Criação de Animais Silvestres Sooretama and another of was formerly the Parque Estadual Barra Seca of the state of Espirito Santo. These were merged on 20 September 1982 to create the biological reserve. It became part of the Central Atlantic Forest Ecological Corridor, created in 2002. The reserve covers of Atlantic Forest. Barra Seca is an official nude beach in Brazil. While elsewhere in Brazil people are generally prohibited to be naked in public places, in Barra Seca you must be nude in the family area (the main part of the beach). Around the periphery of the beach, nudism is optional.
