Lincolnville, York Region, Ontario
Lincolnville is a community and former hamlet situated in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ontario, Canada. Lincolnville is located at the intersection of Bloomington Road / Regional Road 40 (formerly Highway 47), York Durham Town Line / Regional Road 30 and Tenth Line (or 10th Concession Road). Beyond an inn, saw mills and gravel pits (still in operation), it did not evolve as much as other halmets in Whitchurch-Stouffville. The nearest post office in the 19th Century was located further west in Bloomington. Toronto and Nipissing Railway built their line that crossed south in 1877 but stations were only found to the east in Goodwood and west in Stouffville. Subsequent owners do not service Lincolnville until GO Transit established a station in 2008 but was renamed Old Elm GO Station in October 2021. Old Elm GO Station (formerly Lincolnville) is a train and bus station in the GO Transit network located in Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ontario, Canada. Old Elm is the northeastern terminus of train service on the Stouffville line. The station opened on September 2, 2008, after some delay; it had initially been projected to open the preceding June. Toronto And Nipissing Railway
The Toronto and Nipissing Railway (T&N) was the first public narrow-gauge railway in North America. It chartered in 1868 to build from Toronto to Lake Nipissing in Ontario, Canada, via York, Ontario, and Victoria counties. At Nipissing it would meet the transcontinental lines of the Canadian Pacific, providing a valuable link to Toronto. It opened in 1871, with service between Scarborough and Uxbridge. By December 1872 it was extended to Coboconk, but financial difficulties led to plans of the line being built further abandoned at this point. The railway merged with the Midland Railway of Canada in 1882. A series of mergers, bankruptcies and ownership changes eventually turned this right of way into the CN Uxbridge Subdivision, at least the portions north of the CN Kingston Subdivision at Scarborough Junction. Bloomington is a hamlet in York Region, Ontario, Canada, in the town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. The hamlet is centred at the intersection of Ninth Line and Bloomington Road near the eastern boundary of the town of Whitchurch–Stouffville. Neighbouring communities within Whitchurch–Stouffville include Musselman Lake to the north, Lemonville to the west, and the community of urban Stouffville to the south. The hamlet of Goodwood in the town of Uxbridge lies to the east. King's Highway 47, commonly referred to as Highway 47 and locally as Stouffville Road, Toronto Street and Brock Street, was a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. The mostly rural route travelled through the towns of Whitchurch-Stouffville, Goodwood, and Uxbridge on its east–west path between Highway 48 and Highway 12. The route was established in 1937, existing until it was transferred to the Regional Municipality of Durham and the Regional Municipality of York at the beginning of 1998.
