Stoney Creek (electoral District)
Stoney Creek was an electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1997 to 2003 and in the legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1999 to 2007. It was located in the Hamilton area of Southern Ontario. This riding was created in 1996 from parts of Hamilton—Wentworth and Lincoln ridings. It consisted of the City of Stoney Creek, the Township of Glanbrook, and the southeast part of the City of Hamilton, and the Town of Grimsby. The electoral district was abolished in 2003 when it was redistributed between Hamilton East—Stoney Creek, Hamilton Mountain and Niagara West—Glanbrook ridings. This is a list of Canada's 343 federal electoral districts (commonly referred to as '' ridings'' in Canadian English) as defined by the ''2023 Representation Order''. Canadian federal electoral districts are constituencies that elect members of Parliament to the House of Commons of Canada every election. Provincial electoral districts often have names similar to their local federal counterpart but usually have different geographic boundaries. Canadians elected members for each federal electoral district most recently in the 2025 federal election on April 28, 2025. There are four districts established by the ''British North America Act 1867'' that have existed continuously without changes to their names or being abolished and reconstituted as a riding due to redistricting: Beauce (Quebec), Halifax (Nova Scotia), Shefford (Quebec), and Simcoe North (Ontario). James Norris (politician)
James Norris (1809 – August 1, 1891) was an Ontario businessman and political figure. He represented Lincoln in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal member from 1874 to 1878. He was born in Argyleshire, Scotland in 1809 and came to Peel County, Upper Canada with his parents around 1834. He moved to St. Catharines, where he formed a partnership with Sylvester Neelon in shipping, milling and the timber trade. After the partnership dissolved, Norris continued to be involved in transporting goods to foreign markets, primarily England. He served on the town council, serving a term as mayor. In 1847, he married Sophronia Neelon, his partner's sister; in 1863, he married Elizabeth Waud, after his first wife's death. He was first elected to the House of Commons in the 1874 federal election but was unseated after an appeal. Thomas Rodman Merritt
Thomas Rodman Merritt (October 17, 1824 – January 11, 1906) was a Canadian businessman and political figure in Upper Canada, later Ontario, Canada. He represented Lincoln in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal member from 1868 to 1874. He was born at his maternal grandparents’ home in Mayville, New York in 1824, the son of William Hamilton Merritt. He studied at Upper Canada College in Toronto and Grantham Academy in St. Catharines. In 1839, he was working at a store in St. Catharines. In 1843, he opened a general store there in partnership with James Rea Benson. The partners bought flour mills and had two ships built to transport flour. The partnership split up in 1849 and Merritt kept the mills and ships. In 1850, he set up a shipping line that transported goods to Brantford and returned to St. Catharines with wheat. Erie—Lincoln was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1997 to 2004, and was a provincial electoral district represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1999 to 2007. This riding was created in 1996 from parts of Erie, Haldimand—Norfolk and Lincoln ridings. It consisted of the City of Port Colborne, the towns of Fort Erie and Lincoln and the townships of Wainfleet and West Lincoln in the Regional Municipality of Niagara, and the Town of Dunnville in the Regional Municipality of Haldimand-Norfolk. Wentworth South was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1904. it was located near Hamilton in the province of Ontario. It was created by the British North America Act 1867. The "South Riding of Wentworth" initially consisted of the Townships of Saltfleet, Binbrook, Glanford, Barton and Ancaster. In 1882, the townships of Grimsby and Caistor, and the village of Grimsby were added, while the Township of Ancaster was removed. In 1892, it was called "South Wentworth" and redefined to consist of the townships of Saltfleet, Binbrooke, Barton, Glanford, North and South Grimsby, Caistor, East and West Flamborough, the town of Dundas, and the villages of Grimsby and Waterdown. Lincoln and Niagara was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1883 to 1904. It was located in the province of Ontario. This riding was created from parts of Lincoln and Niagara ridings. It was initially defined as consisting of the town and township of Niagara, the city of St. Catharines, the townships of Grantham, Clinton and Louth, and the villages of Beamsville, Merritton and Port Dalhousie. Stoney Creek is a community in the city of Hamilton, Ontario, Hamilton in the Canadian province of Ontario located 10 km east of Downtown Hamilton, Ontario, Hamilton and 57 km south-west of Toronto.
