Lincoln, Maine
Lincoln is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. The town's population was 4,853 at the 2020 United States Census. A statue honoring Medal of Honor recipient Gary Gordon was installed in Lincoln, in 2021. The bronze sculpture faces Gordon's grave at Park Street Cemetery. Etymology Lincoln is named after Maine's sixth governor, Enoch Lincoln. The original name of the settlement was "Mattanawcook" preceding a name change by the Maine state legislature in 1829; it survives in the name of the town high school, Mattanawcook Academy. Miss Maine
The Miss Maine competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Maine in the Miss America pageant. Maine has been represented in the pageant since 1937, although the state has never produced a winner. With Alaska became the latest state crowned the Miss America title, Maine is one of the few states along with South Dakota, West Virginia and Wyoming that has yet to win a Miss America, Miss USA, or Miss Teen USA title. Jeffery Gifford
Jeffery Allen Gifford (August 4, 1946 – June 12, 2022) was an American politician in the state of Maine. Gifford served as a Republican member of the Maine House of Representatives, representing the House District 12 from 2006 until 2014. He served on the House Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee (third-term), and then House District 142 from 2020 until his death on June 12, 2022. He was first elected in 2006, was re-elected in 2008, 2010 and 2012. He was elected again in 2020 in what was by this time House District 142. The Maine House of Representatives is the lower house of the Maine Legislature. The House consists of 151 voting members and three nonvoting members. The voting members represent an equal number of districts across the state and are elected via plurality voting. The nonvoting members represent three of Maine's Native American tribes, though two tribes have declined to send representatives. Each voting member of the House represents around 9,000 citizens of the state. Because it is a part-time position, members of the Maine House of Representatives usually have outside employment as well.
