Lim (Korean Surname)
Im or Lim () is a common Korean family name. The surname is identical to the Chinese character of the same name. According to the initial law of the Korean language, both "Im" and "Lim" are interchangeable. History The first clan branch is the Supul Rim (수풀 림, meaning "Forest-Rim") and its Hanja character is 林. The Supul Rim or Lim or Im branch consists of two large Bon-gwan, clan houses; the first is Naju (early ''Hoijin'') and the second, which is the elder branch, is Pyeongtaek. Members of this branch often write their names as both 임 (Im; more common) and 림 (Rim or Lim; initial law). The character 林 means "forest". The second clan branch is the Matgil Im (맡길 임) or Mateul Im (맡을 임) and its Hanja character is 任. The Matgil Im/Mateul Im branch consists of one large clan house called Pungcheon Im clan and a smaller clan house called Jangheung Im clan, Jangheung (장흥). Members of this clan branch both write and pronounce their names as 임 (Im). T ...

Lotus-Intel-Microsoft
In DOS memory management, expanded memory is a system of bank switching that provided additional memory to DOS programs beyond the limit of conventional memory (640 KiB). ''Expanded memory'' is an umbrella term for several incompatible technology variants. The most widely used variant was the Expanded Memory Specification (EMS), which was developed jointly by Lotus Software, Intel, and Microsoft, so that this specification was sometimes referred to as "LIM EMS". LIM EMS had three versions: 3.0, 3.2, and 4.0. The first widely implemented version was EMS 3.2, which supported up to 8 MiB of expanded memory and uses parts of the address space normally dedicated to communication with peripherals ( upper memory) to map portions of the expanded memory. EEMS, an expanded-memory management standard competing with LIM EMS 3.x, was developed by AST Research, Quadram and Ashton-Tate ("AQA"); it could map any area of the lower 1 MiB. EEMS ultimately was incorporated in LIM ...

Limit (mathematics)
In mathematics, a limit is the value that a function (or sequence) approaches as the argument (or index) approaches some value. Limits of functions are essential to calculus and mathematical analysis, and are used to define continuity, derivatives, and integrals. The concept of a limit of a sequence is further generalized to the concept of a limit of a topological net, and is closely related to limit and direct limit in category theory. The limit inferior and limit superior provide generalizations of the concept of a limit which are particularly relevant when the limit at a point may not exist. Notation In formulas, a limit of a function is usually written as : \lim_ f(x) = L, and is read as "the limit of of as approaches equals ". This means that the value of the function can be made arbitrarily close to , by choosing sufficiently close to . Alternatively, the fact that a function approaches the limit as approaches is sometimes denoted by a right arrow (→ or ...

Lim (Croatia)
The Lim bay (, ) and valley is a peculiar geographic feature found near Rovinj-Rovigno and Vrsar-Orsera on the western coast of Istria, south of Poreč-Parenzo, Croatia. The name comes from the Latin for "limit", referring to the landform's position at the border of two Roman provinces: Dalmatia and Italia. Geography The Lim valley () is the 35 km long valley of the river Pazinčica, which transforms into the Lim bay (), a 10 kilometer long estuary. The Croats sometimes also call it ("Lim channel"), due to its narrow width. The estuary is sometimes called a fjord, although it is not in fact a fjord but a ria, because it was not carved by a glacier but by the river eroding the ground on its way to the Adriatic Sea, when the sea level was lower. Owing to its geological history, this estuary is one of the most instructive examples of limestone hydrological development. The Lim stream used to flow through the valley but dried up regularly, and was really only present a ...

LIM Domain
LIM domains are protein structural domains, composed of two contiguous zinc fingers, separated by a two-amino acid residue hydrophobic linker. The domain name is an acronym of the three genes in which it was first identified (LIN-11, Isl-1 and MEC-3). LIM is a protein interaction domain that is involved in binding to many structurally and functionally diverse partners. The LIM domain appeared in eukaryotes sometime prior to the most recent common ancestor of plants, fungi, amoeba and animals. In animal cells, LIM domain-containing proteins often shuttle between the cell nucleus where they can regulate gene expression, and the cytoplasm where they are usually associated with actin cytoskeletal structures involved in connecting cells together and to the surrounding matrix, such as stress fibers, focal adhesions and adherens junctions. Discovery LIM domains are named after their initial discovery in the three homeobox proteins that have the following functions: * Lin-11 – as ...

It markets Historis, a time series database and the Market Information Machine (MIM), a database that is built around Historis, and includes data and a near-English query language. The Market Information Machine (MIM) was invented in 1988 by Tony Kolton, President and CEO of LIM, Danette Chimenti, LIM Director of Strategic Research and Ruben Gamboa, LIM Senior Technical Consultant. Danette sits on the board of directors and Ruben is on the Technical Advisory Board for LIM. Historis, unlike a relational database, is optimized and designed to handle the large storage issues and fast data retrieval speeds required by time-series data (real-time, intraday, daily, weekly, monthly). In December 2009, Morningstar, Inc. announced that it had agreed to buy LIM for $50.5 million. See also * Time series database A time series database is a software system that is optimized for st ...
