The Algerian Women's Championship () known as Elite National Championship is the top flight of women's association football in Algeria. It is the women's equivalent of the Ligue 1, but is not professional. The competition is run by the Ligue Nationale du Football Féminin under the auspices of the Algerian Football Federation. History In the 1970s, many women's football clubs were formed in Algeria as in Tiaret in 1975 but they only took part in friendly tournaments only. The first match was played in 8 March 1978 between Ibn Rostom High School of Tiaret and Frenda Women's Club from Frenda as a friendly game. Since 1990, other clubs began to appear. The Division 1 National Championship () is the second-highest division of women's association football in Algeria. The competition is run by the Ligue Nationale du Football Féminin under the auspices of the Algerian Football Federation. History Ten years after the creation of the first women's division in 1998, a national league of two divisions (D1 and D2) was created in the 2008–09 season under the auspices of the Ligue Nationale du Football (LNF). Women's football in Algeria is a popular sport in Algeria. It's run by the ''Ligue du Football Féminin'' under the auspices of the Algerian Football Federation. History The first women's football match in Algeria took place in the French Algeria era on 8 May 1921 during an Algiers exhibition day. The match was between the women's sections of two senior clubs, ''Association Sportive Algéroise'' and ''Gallia Club Oranais'', in the Exposition Stadium in Algiers. After Algerian independence in 1962, women's clubs had been dissolved. In 1975, ''COS Tiaret'' was the first women club created under the era of independent Algeria.
