Liga Latinoamérica
The Liga Latinoamérica (LLA; ) was the top level of professional ''League of Legends'' in Latin America (refers to Hispanic America). The esports league was run by Riot Games Latin America. Each annual competitive season was divided into opening and closing seasons, which concluded with a playoff tournament between the top four teams. Plans for the league were first announced in May 2018 by Riot Games, which stated that it would merge Latin America's two regional leagues, the ''Liga Latinoamérica Norte'' (''LLN'', North Latin America League) and ''Copa Latinoamérica Sur'' (''CLS'', South Latin America Cup)'','' into a single competition. ''League of Legends'' (''LoL'', commonly referred to as ''League'', is a multiplayer online battle arena video game developed and published by Riot Games. Inspired by ''Defense of the Ancients'', a Mod (video games), custom map for ''Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, Warcraft III'', Riot's founders sought to develop a stand-alone game in the same genre. Isurus (esports)
Isurus, formerly known as Isurus Gaming, is an Argentine professional esports organization with teams competing in '' Counter-Strike: Global Offensive'' and ''League of Legends''. Its ''League of Legends'' team is the first champion of the Liga Latinoamérica (LLA), winning both its inaugural opening cup and closing cup in 2019. These two championships qualified Isurus for the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational and the 2019 World Championship respectively. Promotion and relegation is used by sports leagues as a process where teams can move up and down among divisions in a league system, based on their performance over a season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are sometimes called open leagues. In a system of promotion and relegation, the best-ranked team(s) in a lower division are ''promoted'' to a higher division for the next season, and the worst-ranked team(s) in the higher division are ''relegated'' to the lower division for the next season. The League Championship Series (LCS) was the top level of professional ''League of Legends'' in the United States and Canada. The esports league was run by Riot Games and had anywhere from eight to 10 teams. Each annual season of competition was divided into two splits, spring and summer, which concluded with a double-elimination tournament between the top teams. At the end of the season, the winner, runners-up and third-place team of the summer playoffs qualified for the annual ''League of Legends'' World Championship.
