Stirchley, West Midlands
Stirchley is a suburb in south-west Birmingham, England. The name likely refers to a pasture for cattle. The settlement dates back to at least 1658. Prehistoric evidence, Roman roads, and Anglo-Saxon charters contribute to its history. The Worcester and Birmingham Canal and the railways brought industry to the area. Cotteridge is an area of Birmingham, England, and part of the Bournville ward. It is about miles south of Birmingham city centre. It has a shopping centre with a mixture of local shops, eateries and national brands. The building was enlarged when the Church of England and URC churches were demolished to make way for a supermarket and the three congregations were merged. Lifford Reservoir
Lifford Reservoir in the Kings Norton district of Birmingham, England was built by the Worcester & Birmingham Canal company in 1815 to compensate Lifford Mill for water lost to the canal. It is located at the junction of the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal and the Worcester and Birmingham Canal and is on the River Rea Cycle Route. Angling is permitted subject to a charge outside the spring close season. Fish in the reservoir include tench, carp, pike, eels, perch, roach and bream. Lifford railway station refers to a series of railway stations in Cotteridge, Birmingham, England. History There were three stations at different times in the vicinity named Lifford. * Lifford station (1840–1875) on the Birmingham and Gloucester Railway (now the Camp Hill line) * Lifford station (1876–1885) on the Birmingham West Suburban Railway (now the Cross-City Line) * Lifford station (1885–1941) on the Midland Railway (formerly the B&GR) The first station opened on 17 December 1840 on the Birmingham and Gloucester (B&GR) main line. This was absorbed into the Midland Railway in 1845. The original station closed in 1875.
