Library Circulation
Library circulation or library lending comprises the activities around the lending of library books and other material to users of a lending library. A circulation or lending department is one of the key departments of a library. The main public service point is the circulation desk or loans desk, usually found near the main entrance of a library. It provides lending services and facilities for return of loaned items. Renewal of materials and payment of fines are also handled at the circulation desk. Circulation staff may provide basic search and reference services, though more in-depth questions are usually referred to reference librarians at the library reference desk, but the services of both are occasionally combined. Browne Issue System
The Browne Issue System is an old system for loaning library books, developed by Nina Browne in 1895. Overview When a book was borrowed the librarian took one of the reader's "borrowing cards" and removed the book's own card. These two cards were filed together with the date stamped in the book. These cards are "tickets" that are arranged in trays by date of issue and within date by the key on the card. When the book was returned, the user's card was removed from the file of the day indicated by the stamp and given back, and the book card was replaced in the book. Whilst the filed cards revealed which user had a particular book, or which books a particular reader had borrowed, this was only true whilst the loan continued. Controlled Digital Lending

Inter-library loan (abbreviated ILL, sometimes called document delivery, document supply, inter-lending, inter-library services, inter-loan, or resource sharing) is a service that enables patrons of one library to borrow materials that are held by another library.
