Liberty Hill Historic District (San Francisco, California)
The Liberty Hill Historic District is a historic district located in the Dolores Heights neighborhood of San Francisco, California, U.S.. It is a residential neighborhood bound by 20th, Mission, Dolores, and 22nd Streets. It is listed as a San Francisco Designated Landmark since October 25, 1985. It contains the Liberty Street Historic District, a two block area along Liberty Street listed as a California Historical Landmark, and one of the National Register of Historic Places. With History It is a residential neighborhood bound by 20th Street, Mission Street, Dolores Street, and 22nd Street. The southern boundary is the Yerba Buena Spanish settlement charter line of 1834. The name was derived from a hyphenation of Liberty Street and Hill Street, however over time the hyphen was dropped. It is not particularly steep. Albert Pissis
Albert Pissis (1852–1914) was a prolific Mexican-American architect in San Francisco who studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France and is credited with introducing the Beaux-Arts architectural style to San Francisco, California, designing a number of important buildings in the city in the years before and after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Life and career Pissis was born on April 26, 1852 in Guaymas in the Mexican state of Sonora. His father was Jose Etienne Pissis (1808-1880), a native of France and a physician, who moved his family to San Francisco, California from Guaymas when Pissis was six. His mother was Juana Bazozabel "Jane" de Bustamante (1824-1893), a native of Guaymas. Pissis was one of the first Americans to study at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. Charlotte Mignon "Lotta" Crabtree (November 7, 1847 – September 25, 1924), also known mononymously as Lotta, was an American actress, entertainer, comedian, and philanthropist. Samuel Newsom (1852 – 1908) was a Canadian-born American architect. Together with his brother Joseph Cather Newsom founded the architecture firm Newsom and Newsom (or the Newsom Brothers), practicing in Northern and Southern California.
