Liberty is a town that sits astride the line dividing Okmulgee and Tulsa counties in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. As of the 2020 census, the population is 153. History The earliest settler recorded in this area was Wallace W. Baird, a farmer from Illinois, who arrived in Tulsa County in 1912, and settled on a farm. Liberty was incorporated as a dispersed rural community on October 1, 1978. It incorporated a second time on June 29, 1982. Geography Liberty is located at (35.857244, -95.969284). Liberty is east of Mounds, south of both Tulsa and Glenpool, and north of both Okmulgee and Preston, directly on the east side of U.S. Route 75. Mounds, Oklahoma
Mounds is a town in Creek County, Oklahoma, United States. It is located just south of Tulsa; the town's population was 1,168 at the 2010 census, an increase of 1.3 percent from the figure of 1,153 recorded in 2000. History The post office for this community was established in 1895 and originally named "Posey", for the Creek poet Alexander Posey, who lived in Eufaula, Oklahoma. In 1898, the town was moved southwest and renamed "Mounds" for twin hills that were nearby. By 1901, the St. Louis, Oklahoma and Southern Railway (later the St. Louis and San Francisco Railway) built a track through Mounds, and the town became an important cattle shipping point. US Route 75
U.S. Route 75 is a major north–south U.S. Highway that extends in the central United States. The highway's northern terminus is in Noyes, Minnesota, at the Canadian border, where it once continued as Manitoba Highway 75 on the other side of the now-closed border crossing. Preston is an unincorporated community located in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma, United States. The post office was established December 13, 1909. It was named for an Okmulgee oilman, Harry Preston. First known as Hamilton Switch, and now unrecognizable from the past, Preston was once a highly prosperous community, thriving mainly from the oil boom, as did many of the surrounding communities. Later on, as the oil industry quieted in Preston, it served as a station for restocking trains and running cattle trails, loading water from Frisco Lake. Many remnants of the station may be found throughout parts of Preston. Many old cattle trails and roads, though overgrown, are still distinguishable as such due to the heavy use and traffic. Okmulgee is a city in, and the county seat of, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma.
