Liberty is a town in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,287 at the 2000 census. Rube Rube is an unincorporated community at the intersection of English Lake Road and Range Line Road. The community is split between the towns of Liberty and Newton. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 35.4 square miles (91.7 km2), of which, 35.1 square miles (91.0 km2) is land and 0.3 square miles (0.7 km2)(0.76%) is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 1,287 people, 456 households, and 378 families residing in the town. The population density was 36.6 people per square mile (14.1/km2). There were 498 housing units at an average density of 14.2 per square mile (5.5/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.21% White, 0.08% Native American, 1.09% from other races, and 0.62% from two or more races. Daniel Tracy (politician)
Daniel Tracy (December 8, 1843 – October 2, 1919) was an American farmer, businessman, and politician. Tracy was born in King's County, Ireland. He emigrated to the United States and settled in the town of Liberty, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin in 1854. Tracy went to the public schools in Manitowoc County. Tracy was a farmer and owned a hotel. He lived in Osman, Wisconsin. Tracy served on the Liberty Town Board and was chairman of the town board. Tracy also served on the school board and the Manitowoc County Board of Supervisors. Tracy served in the Wisconsin Assembly in 1887 and 1888 and was a Democrat. Svend Samuelson
Svend Samuelson (January 24, 1825 – January 15, 1891) was a Norwegian American immigrant, farmer, and Republican politician. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Manitowoc County in the 1871 session. Biography Samuelson was born in Christiana, Norway, in January 1825. He received a common school education and emigrated to the United States, settling in the town of Liberty, in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, in 1854. He established a farm there, and served for more than ten years as town clerk. At the outbreak of the American Civil War, he volunteered for service in the Union Army with the 15th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, frequently referred to as the "Scandinavian Regiment" due to being mostly composed of recent Scandinavian American immigrants.
