The Libertarian Party of Canada fielded eleven candidates in the 2006 federal election, none of whom were elected. Information about these candidates may be found here. Ontario Soumen Deb ( Don Valley West) Deb was born in Toronto in 1976, and attended Don Valley Collegiate and Queen's University. He was the Libertarian Party's candidate in Don Valley West in the 2006 federal election and is standing for the party again in the September 22, 2008 federal by-election. He is a logistics coordinator, and an advocate of personal, economic and commercial freedom. In the 2006 campaign, he wrote that he supports preserving the environment through "market forces and grassroots action". By-elections to the 39th Canadian Parliament were held to fill vacancies in the House of Commons of Canada between the 2006 federal election and the 2008 federal election. The 2006 Toronto municipal election took place on 13 November 2006 to elect a mayor and 44 Toronto City Council, city councillors in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. John Ferguson Godfrey (December 19, 1942 – December 18, 2023) was a Canadian educator, journalist and politician who served as a member of Parliament from 1993 to 2008. Background Godfrey was born in Toronto, Ontario on December 19, 1942. His father, Senator John Morrow Godfrey (June 28, 1912 – March 8, 2001), was a Canadian pilot, lawyer and politician.
