Liberec
Liberec (; ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It has about 108,000 inhabitants, making it the fifth largest city in the country. It lies on the Lusatian Neisse River, in a basin surrounded by mountains. The city centre is well preserved and is protected as an Cultural monument (Czech Republic)#Monument zones, urban monument zone. Liberec was once home to a thriving textile industry and hence nicknamed the "Manchester of Bohemia". A symbol of the city and the main landmark of the panorama of Liberec is the Ještěd Tower. Since the end of the 19th century, the city has been a conurbation with the suburb of Vratislavice nad Nisou and the neighbouring city of Jablonec nad Nisou. Liberec District
Liberec District () is a district in the Liberec Region of the Czech Republic. Its capital is the city of Liberec. Administrative division Liberec District is divided into three administrative districts of municipalities with extended competence: Liberec, Frýdlant and Turnov. The town of Turnov is located in the neighbouring Semily District and it is the only such administrative district in the country whose borders do not correspond to the borders of the district. Liberec Region
Liberec Region () is an administrative unit (Czech language, Czech: ''kraj'') of the Czech Republic, located in the northernmost part of its historical region of Bohemia. It is named after its capital Liberec. The region shares international borders with Germany and Poland. Domestically the region borders the Ústí nad Labem Region to the west, the Central Bohemian Region to the south and the Hradec Králové Region to the east. Mayors For Liberec Region
Mayors for the Liberec Region (, SLK) is a regionalist party in the Czech Republic, established ahead of the 2008 regional elections. The party won the 2012 regional election in Liberec and its leader Martin Půta became governor of the Liberec Region, the first time a governor had come from outside one of the major parties. SLK cooperate with the Mayors and Independents party. Ideology The party focuses on regional issues. It supports economical responsibility, transparency and flood repairs. SLK were critical of the coalition between ČSSD and SOS that governed the region in 2008-2012. SLK criticised the coalition for corruption and slow repairs to roads damaged by floods. Ještěd Tower
Ještěd Tower () is a television transmitter on top of Mount Ještěd near Liberec in the Czech Republic. Measuring , it is made of reinforced concrete shaped in a "hyperboloid" form. The tower was designed by architect Karel Hubáček, who was assisted by :cs:Zdeněk Patrman, Zdeněk Patrman, involved in building statics, and by :cs:Otakar Binar, Otakar Binar, who designed the interior furnishing. It took the team three years to finalize the structure design (1963–1966). The construction itself took seven years to finish (1966–1973). The hyperboloid shape was chosen since it naturally extends the silhouette of the hill and, moreover, resists the extreme climate conditions on the summit of Mount Ještěd. Vratislavice Nad Nisou
Vratislavice nad Nisou () is a self-governing borough of the city of Liberec in the Czech Republic. As of 2021, it has about 8,900 inhabitants. It straddles the Lusatian Neisse river between Liberec and Jablonec nad Nisou, around 3.5 km south-east of Liberec city centre. History The settlement of "Wratislawicz" was established, it is thought, in the 13th century by Bohemian colonists on the left bank of the river Nisa. The very first written document mentioning this place comes from the 1460s which by this stage had a stone church. The right bank of the Nisa was settled (as an independent village) during the 16th century by German speaking people from Silesia, and called the village Meffersdorf after the settlers' home village. These two villages possessed not only different names, but even belonged to different governances (Liberec and Český Dub). Jeřmanice
Jeřmanice () is a municipality and village in Liberec District in the Liberec Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 700 inhabitants. Etymology The name is derived from the personal name Herman. It was the ''lokator'' of the village. Geography Jeřmanice is located about south of Liberec. The municipal territory lies on the border between three nature regions: the northwestern part lies in the Jizera Mountains, the southwestern part lies in the Ještěd–Kozákov Ridge, and the eastern part lies in the westermost tip of the Giant Mountains Foothills. In the Czech Republic, a statutory city () is a municipal corporation that has been granted city status by Act of Parliament. Ještěd
Ještěd (; ) is the highest mountain of the Ještěd–Kozákov Ridge in the north of the Czech Republic, at . It is the symbol of the city of Liberec. On the summit is the Ještěd Tower restaurant, hotel and television tower, designed by Karel Hubáček, accessible by road or cable car (Ještěd cable car). The mountain also has a ski resort. From the summit there are views to Germany and Poland. Etymology The name was probably derived from the connection of the Old German words ''ask'' and ''ket'', meaning "Fraxinus, ash hill" or "ash forest".
