Leyte Gulf
Leyte Gulf, also known simply as the Leyte, is a gulf in the Eastern Visayan region in the Philippines. The bay is part of the Philippine Sea of the Pacific Ocean, and is bounded by two islands; Samar in the north and Leyte in the west. On the south of the bay is Mindanao Island, separated from Leyte by the Surigao Strait. Dinagat Island partly encloses the gulf to the southeast, and the small Homonhon Island and Suluan Island, sit astride the eastern entrance to the Gulf. It is approximately north-south, and east-west. Several municipalities are situated on the coast of the gulf: Balangiga, Giporlos, Guiuan, Lawaan, Mercedes, Quinapondan and Salcedo. There are also eleven marine reserves in the gulf region. Leyte ( ) is an island in the Visayas group of islands in the Philippines. It is eighth-largest and sixth-most populous island in the Philippines, with a total population of 2,626,970 as of 2020 census. Loreto, Dinagat Islands
Loreto, officially the Municipality of Loreto (; Surigaonon: ''Lungsod nan Loreto''; ; ), is a municipality in the province of Dinagat Islands, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 9,690 people. History The town became a part of the province of Dinagat Islands on October 2, 2006, when the province was created from Surigao del Norte by Republic Act No. 9355. However, in February 2010, the Supreme Court ruled that the law was unconstitutional, as the necessary requirements for provincial land area and population were not met. The town reverted to Surigao del Norte. On October 24, 2012, however, the Supreme Court reversed its ruling from the previous year, and upheld the constitutionality of RA 9355 and the creation of Dinagat Islands as a province. Silago, Southern Leyte
Silago, officially the Municipality of Silago (; ), is a municipality in the province of Southern Leyte, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 13,116 people. It was used to be barrio of Hinunangan until Executive Order No. 326 dated May 17, 1950 separated it from the mother town. The town has an ebony beach with unique black sand. Salcedo (IPA: sɐlˈsɛdo , ), officially the Municipality of Salcedo, is a municipality in the province of Eastern Samar, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 22,136 people. History The town was formerly a part of Guiuan.
