Lexton, Victoria
Lexton is a town in western Victoria, Australia, in the Shire of Pyrenees local government area. It is on the Sunraysia Highway, northwest of the state capital Melbourne. At the 2016 Australian census, Lexton and the surrounding area had a population of 231. History The Post Office opened in the area on 1 July 1848 as Burn Bank and was renamed Lexton in 1854 when the township was settled. The Shire of Pyrenees is a local government area (LGA) in Victoria, Australia, located in the western part of the state. It covers an area of and in June 2018 had a population of 7,353. It includes the towns of Avoca, Beaufort, Lexton and Trawalla. It was formed in 1994 from the amalgamation of the Shire of Avoca, Shire of Lexton, and Shire of Ripon. Sunraysia Highway (route B220) is a north–south rural highway in western Victoria, linking Ouyen to the north-western Ballarat suburb of Mitchell Park, and acts as a secondary route to Calder Highway, the main route between Melbourne and Mildura.
