Levittown is a Hamlet (New York), hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Hempstead (town), New York, Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, New York, Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York (state), New York. It is a suburb of New York City, located halfway between the villages of Hempstead (village), New York, Hempstead and Farmingdale, New York, Farmingdale. The CDP had a total population of 51,758 at the time of the 2020 census, making it the most populous unincorporated CDP in Nassau County and the second most populous CDP on Long Island, behind Brentwood, New York, Brentwood. Levittown gets its name from its builder, the firm of Levitt & Sons, Levitt & Sons, Inc. founded by Abraham Levitt on August 2, 1929, which built the district as a planned community for returning World War II veterans between 1947 and 1951. Levittown, a suburb in the municipality of Toa Baja, is a planned community, among the largest in Puerto Rico. Per the 2020 census, the population was 25,591. It is divided into eight sections called ''secciones'' and several sub-divisions called ''urbanizaciones''. Levittown is known for its 150 foot tall sky blue water tower (now converted into a public library) that was one of the first water towers in Puerto Rico used to provide potable water to residences. Willingboro Township (known from 1959 to 1963 as Levittown and Levittown Township) is a township in Burlington County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is a suburb of Philadelphia and part of the state's South Jersey region. The township, and all of Burlington County, is a part of the Philadelphia-Reading- Camden combined statistical area and the Delaware Valley. William Levitt
William Jaird Levitt (February 11, 1907 – January 28, 1994) was an American real-estate developer and housing pioneer. As president of Levitt & Sons, he is widely credited as the father of modern American suburbia. In 1998 he was named one of ''Time'' Magazine's " 100 Most Influential People of the 20th Century." Early life and education Levitt was born in 1907 to a Jewish family in Brooklyn.
